Leon River Bad Boys Club

Feral Hogs have inhabited TX now for some time, actually they were brought over with the
conquistadors of Spain as domestic hogs to raise for food. They were raised in higher numbers
after the Texas-Mexico wars in the 1800’s, this is when the majority of farmers began free ranging
their hogs, resulting in many escapees that have bred with the Eurasian pigs brought by the
original settlers and many game farms. The population is made up of many different breeds of
hog, most of which are not of pure strain, but resulting in a strain of pig that has many great skills
and defenses for surviving. These defenses include tusks, thicker hides, and shoulder plates made
up of  scar tissue that grows and hardens over their life span which is usually about 8 years
assuming I am not around with my bow in a tree somewhere close. The feral hog can breed
anytime of the year resulting in 4-12 piglets , sows can mate as young as 6 months of age and
have at least 3 litters a year in most places. This helps substantiate the population of over 1.5
million hogs in TX alone.

The Leon River is situated near Hamilton TX, it like most parts of TX has a  feral hog population,
this is where I took my Jet black boar that weighed 75 lb. though he wasn't big he was exciting as
heck to hunt.

I hunted from Friday afternoon to Sunday night. Sunday night all was quiet, and things seemed as normal, my feeder had not yet gone off, and I was watching this rabbit like I had done everyday since I hunted in this stand. Well  an hour passed then two hours  its about 7  PM now, and the weather and things just seem different all of a sudden. I figured its a good time to start grunting for pigs so I snag my grunt tube and blow away, about 5 minutes later my rabbit that had since disappeared runs frantically back up under the feeder and past me, I look out the corner of my eye and see three black figures in the cedar, there they are. Hogs! Its GO time!

I get ready and snap on my Scott Mongoose release and draw back hoping the new Sticks and
Limbs camo will hide me and break up my silhouette. They begin to make there move towards the
corn piles, I anchor and pick out the lead pig and touch off my release, 13 yards later the arrow
strikes the pig which is quartering towards me right where I set my pin. Smack!!!!!! I made a
heart shot and this bad boy isn't gonna last long. The pig spun 6 times and made it five yards before surcoming to my 100 grain 3 blade spitfire broadhead and carbon goldtip shaft .

It was at this point that Robert Hoague said he told himself I had just become the third member of the Leon Rivers Bad boy Club. Well no tracking job here to speak of  so here are the details I was shooting a Mathews Z-Max, 3555 gold tip carbons, and spitfire Broadheads ( 3 blade 100 grain), the weather was nice and hot  about 90 degrees. I was also hunting in my new Sticks and limbs Camo ( which worked great). Thank you Robert for being such a great host, and tell that cat I threw in the gloves and don't wanna fight anymore.
