Doug Felps AKA "Turtle" A Brief background on my own self, to begin with I am 22 I was born June 7, 1976 in VA. My father nurtured and fostered my love of hunting at a young age, I think the first time I went hunting I was 4 or 5, I killed my first deer when i was 8 with a rifle, at 11 I downed my first propeller head with a bow. I started out shooting a Pearson Equalizer, then advanced to a Pearson probe, I sold this bow to my best friend Bryce, from there I was given a Pro line Riptide and then purchased a Pearson Spoiler, I sold the Pro line and purchased a High Country Royal hunter and sold that last summer, I am now shooting a Matthew's z-max. Which brings y'all up to date on my bow selection, I will tell you about this long list of bows later on in one of my articles. I live in Commerce TX and attend Texas A&M Commerce University. I am not real tall, only about 5 foot six inches tall, so I completely understand the needs of shorter draw shooters and the need to find performance in a "smaller package" When I was 9 years old I
contracted a disease called Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, (systemic) this
has brought alot of changes to my life, as I had to adapt to alot of things,
and learn different ways to manage, hunting, and those other things, I
think it's called life, (but wait is there life without hunting?) .
Please feel free to write me about anything, no matter how small or petty you think it may be to someone else, if not I myself may be seeking the answer, not to mention its always "cool " to have your name mentioned on the net !!! I guess by now you're wondering what kinda game I hunt? My favorite game to hunt is Whitetail Deer, Pigs ( feral hogs and Eurasian feral mix) and Javalina sometimes called the Collard Peccary. I hunt Primarily in TX, although I have hunted in VA, and Maryland's eastern Shores. As I said earlier I shoot a Z-max ( Matthew's) I shoot gold tip carbon Arrows as well as a PSE infinity (shorty 1 inch) overdraw and Golden Key Futura carbon Launcher arm. My draw length is about 27 inches (26 .5 during hunting season). I shoot NAP spitfire broadheads as well as muzzy's when I am shooting aluminum arrows XX78 2213's (sometimes I shoot aluminum just depends on my mood). I make up my own arrows, it saves alot of money ya know! On my hunting arrows I shoot 2 White 1 Chartreuse 3 inch straight Fletch ( PSE or Easton) vanes on my 3-d arrows I shoot 1.6 inch ( PSE) (Chartreuse and Purple) and chartreuse nocks all the way around. All my arrows are 26 inches in length. I shoot a 9 Inch Vibracheck Stabilizer ( 3D SIL) and a PSE RS Glo for hunting. I have a Genesis 3 axis rack and pinion for 3-d shooting with a 4x power Super Scope. In 3D I shoot in the Handicapped class, I have met lots of great guys from far and near in my class, most of which, and I say this feeling very humble out shoot me on a regular basis. But hey we all can't be first and someone needs to provide some comic relief! Finally I have to say, that I owe all this to My father and Mother, without them my ship would be dead in the water. My dad is by far my best friend and hunting buddy and my mother is my emotional support. I can tell them anything and even though they my not agree (like when I told them I got my ear and tongue pierced) they still supported me. Sometimes I can hardly walk
or get in my stand. Dad will drive me to it and help me up, sometimes literally
walking under me and pushing me up the ladder and helping me into the
