Hog Hunting 2000
Scouting & Setting Up The Island
I decided to use a ladder stand. However, the tree was so fat that the
webbing that came with the stand was not long enough so I used Rope Ratchets
to secure the brace in the middle and the seat at the top. (These Rope
Ratchets are very handy, I use them all the time for all kinds of hunting
tasks.) It didn't take long to set the stand up and test it to be sure
it was stable.

Forty
yards from the stand is the main attraction for several of the hogs I saw
Friday. It the most impressive hog wallow and rooting area I have ever
seen. "Just how impressive?" you ask. Well, it is 80 yards long! I haven't
seen it all by any means, but that's impressive in my book.
The ground is so rooted up that from a distance you would think it had been plowed, which, of course, it has, but not by the disks of a plow. The dirt is dug out deep into the ground. Notice that there is still a little standing water in one area. The rooted area takes a hard left around the pecan tree in the top left side and continues. If you want to see it clearer (larger) here it is big enough to fill your screen and let you better see what this looks like. Island Hog Wallow. It takes a lot of hogs to do this to the land. Let's check out the place, first we'll look around the edge of the
Island. LET's GO... |
