Wildlife
Alliance For Youth (May 15, 2001)
Continued...
After the BBQ Misty Sumner of Texas Parks & Wildlife introduced
the events guest speaker, Gerald Stewart of Johnny Stewart Wildlife Calls.
Gerald demonstrated a variety of game, varmint and bird calls and shared
interesting information on calling wild animals and birds.
Introducing, George Martin,
the gentleman who started this important event.
This worthwhile program for youth was conceived and initiated by George
Martin of the Natural Resource Conservation Service. George's goal was
to make young people aware of hunter safety, game laws and the importance
of wildlife habitat. He began with a small group of East Texas kids. Through
the partnership of Natural Resource professionals and additional Conservation
Agencies the current program involvement numbers in the thousands.
At the Awards Ceremony George Martin received a plaque recognizing him
for his contribution to conservation education. And then he was presented
with a commemorative shirt for the event. (Below.)
The Awards Ceremony.
Also covering the Wildlife event for the media were Brenda Morris and
Roy Neves (below) of the magazine Texas Game & Fish. They make an important
contribution to the event. The individual with the highest score receives
a Scholarship of $1,000 from the magazine Texas Game & Fish.
Here, the magazine publisher Roy Neves presented the scholarship to
