The tense windup of the NFAA competition was a Shoot-Off for 11 contenders -- 4 women and 7 men vied for the top honors. (We have pictures of the shoot-off and the Pro men's Sudden Death, arrow for arrow, tie breaker.) Michelle Ragsdale, George Ryles, Daryl Diehl and Jim Butts shot tough when it counted and won their classes.

Here is Jessica Heap and her father, who hail from Wolftrack Archery Club in Hanover, MN. She was one of the few to Robin Hood an arrow at the tournament. This awesome shot made one long arrow out of two of those pencil thin 1614 fancy Jazz shafts! Jessica is 11 years old and shot in Cubs Female Free Style.

A big National tournament like this is a mirror of the hundreds of archery tournaments held every weekend this time of the year. About half came here because, for them, it is a family event that they all enjoy. A sizable percentage come knowing that they probably won't be one of the winners in their class, but they love archery and this tournament brings them together with friends that they rarely see otherwise.

Everyone wants to shoot the best they can in the Nationals, but for most it is a contest with themselves -- as they try to beat their best scores. A certain group, actually only a small percentage of the shooters, come with the intention and the skill to walk away with top honors.

March 31, more photos from the NFAA Archery Trade Show. Photo Gallery, Day 2.

The ATC Archery Scopes crew show us their new Camouflage 55mm scope sight.
Here's Clint Hunter, a Dallas Texas archery and bowhunting icon. His archery pro shop, Bellow's Archery, has been in business since 1972. Clint and I have our own big buck contest every year, going back to 1978. We've both won our share.
We have a group of pictures from the practice area and some of the exhibitors booths. Photo Gallery, Day 1.

Friday Mar 30 (above), was setup day for the exhibitors and practice day for the competitors. NFAA Trade Show Director Bob Ragsdale visits with the exhibitors as they get their booths ready to go.
