RECOMMENDED PUBLICATIONS FOR YOUR READING ENJOYMENT.
If you are an active bowhunter looking for information about the sport you can obviously come to Bowhunting.Net. But I thought I would present here magazines that cover the sport of bowhunting. All feature good editorial, how-to articles, information on technique, products, skills, success stories and general information on how you can shoot or hunt better. While there are hundreds of other publications that cover bowhunting/archery, these devote 100% of their editorial to it. I will also tell you when or if these publications are coming on-line with Bowhunting.Net.

BOWHUNTER MAGAZINE, The absolute premier magazine for the bowhunter. BOWHUNTER was started in the early 70’s by a small group of dedicated bowhunters who wanted to give their fellow bowhunters a magazine of their own. Since that humble start, BOWHUNTER has worked hard under the watchful eyes of MR James, Fred Wallace, Don Clark and others who put the sport first in everything they do. You’ll find the best in hunting stories, great photography and complete forecasts on game prior to the season. If you can only buy one magazine, this is the one to have. New this year is their GEAR GUIDE which covers new products for the bowhunter. Bowhunting.Net on-line: yes. For subscription inf. call. 717-657-9555

BOW & ARROW HUNTING MAGAZINE. While not the high quality look of a BOWHUNTER, BOW & ARROW HUNTING is easy reading. It covers the sport very well with good hunting stories, product coverage and some good how-to from writers such as Emory Loiselle and J.R. Learn. Editor Roger Combs has been there for a long time, knows the sport inside and out and really enjoys what he does. It shows. This magazine has recently sold and reports are a complete overhaul and upgrade is in store. I am looking for a classier look from BOW & ARROW HUNTING, better paper, but the same great editorial. Bowhunting.Net on-line: yes, up and running . For Subscription info or call.714-493-2101

BOWHUNTING WORLD. Here is an all-around good magazine that covers bowhunting from a informational/educational view with a heavy dose of equipment coverage. Good stories, good photography and good variety. Also produces the 3D and Target Guide which covers the 3D arena and ARCHERY BUSINESS, a business publication for Dealers, Distributors and Manufacturer’s only. Also recently sold but I don’t look for any changes. Bowhunting.Net on-line: not yet, but in the talking/thinking stages. For subscription inf. call.800-848-6247

BOWHUNTING NEWS. The most unique publication out there. A tabloid/newspaper format, it’s easy reading and chock full of information. It covers the Eastern part of the country very well. Bowhunting News is also the official newsletter of over a dozen bowhunting organizations and provides that services at no cost to promote/improve bowhunter unity. Like all newspapers the quality of the photography is not of BOWHUNTER quality but not bad. You don’t buy this pub for the good looks, just the good information. Roy Goodwin may not always say what you want to hear but he’s not afraid to tackle the sensitive subjects. It’s cost him some advertisers but he is a guy who loves the sport. BOWHUNTING NEWS will definitely get you thinking. Bowhunting News is on-line. Also on-line Subscription info or call; 508-478-4754

PETERSEN’S BOWHUNTING. Anyone who knows the publishing business has heard the name Petersen. This is a fine magazine that has a good editorial line up with good bowhunting stories and a hard slant toward equipment. If you want to know about equipment I doubt if there is a better source than ‘BOWHUNTING’. Mr. Petersen recently sold his vast publishing empire so everyone is just kind of waiting to see which direction the new company will take with this part.

US ARCHER Arlyene Rhode is one of the nicest ladies you will ever meet. She has, over that past 12 years, worked hard to make this the premier magazine for target archery in the world. No, it is not bowhunting but you won’t find a good bowhunter out there who can’t shoot straight and this magazine is a high quality pub that covers paper and 3D punching at it’s best. Covers Olympic, PAA, NFAA, FITA, World, you name it. If you want to know who is shooting the top scores around the world, US Archer is your magazine. US ARCHER is online now at Bowhunting.Net. Also on-line Subscription info or call 800-742-1235

3D TIMES. If it has to do with the 3D circuit you’ll find it here. A complete listing of all shoot schedules and results, articles on top 3D shooters and product coverage. There is not a more comprehensive magazine covering the 3D sport anywhere. If you shoot 3D this magazine is an absolute must. Bowhunting.Net on-line: will be up very soon. For Subscription info call 309-734-5013

TRADITIONAL BOWHUNTER, The BOWHUNTER MAGAZINE for the traditional archer. If you shoot longbow or recurve, if you just can’t get excited about wheels and gadgets, this is your magazine. High quality, great photo’s and editorial that covers bowhunting stories, personality focus and how-to articles. This is the finest magazine available right now for the traditional archer. Bowhunting.Net on-line: Can’t say. For subscription info call. 208-853-0555

HARRIS BOWHUNTING ANNUALS. HARRIS produces quite a few newsstand publications but they do a fine job with WHITETAIL STRATEGIES and the four annual bowhunting issues every year. Good editorial, wide coverage, fair quality. See your local newsstand for more information. Bowhunting.Net on-line soon for WHITETAIL STRATEGIES but not yet for their bowhunting Annuals. Check out their site anyway for info on the annuals.

BOWMASTERS Started under the guidance on BUCKHUNTERS DIGEST, this magazine recently sold and seems to be growing very nicely. Slick cover and good editorial. Covers bowhunting stories, product coverage and how-to articles. Will be online through Bowhunting.Net: shortly.

WESTERN BOWHUNTER. Tabloid publication offers bowhunting stories, new product section, trophy photo’s and Industry News Section. Like all newspaper formats the quality is not great but this is a solid publication that will give you a good overview of the sport from different perspectives. Bowhunting.Net on-line: No. For subscription info 209-332-2535

WORLD BOWHUNTER. Ted Nugent's magazine covers Ted, his exploits in and out of the field, his World Bowhunter’s Organization and my favorite, Gomer Award. One thing about Ted, he is as subtle as a punch in the face. Ted is the most active bowhunting enthusiast I’ve ever seen. The only thing he loves more than bowhunting is his family. A little rough at times, Ted is eloquent, energetic and dedicated. Good magazine with Ted as the only focus. Bowhunting.Net On Line: Haven’t asked. For subscription info 517-750-9060

ROCKY MT. BOWHUNTER. Narrow focus but if you are into hunting the Rockies this is your magazine. Good stories, good photography of beautiful country and big game. Bowhunting.Net on-line; Haven’t asked. For subscription info 800-235-7624

WHITETAIL TIMES. The Official publication for the VA. Deer Hunters Association this is great magazine for the conservation minded deer hunter. If you live in the north east you will find this pub right on target. If you don’t, you’ll enjoy the editorial anyway. Bowhunting.Net on-line: Haven’t asked. For subscription info 804-743-1290

MIDWEST BOWHUNTER A tabloid for the Midwest bowhunter, this is good regional pub. That provides some good information at the local level. Bowhunting.Net on-line: Haven’t asked. For subscription info 800-999-6924

PRIMITIVE ARCHER. Another fine magazine for the traditional archer. Covers the full spectrum of editorial from stories to how-to. Good magazine to add to your collection if recurve or longbow is your love. Bowhunting.Net on-line: Haven’t asked. For subscription inf. 409-632-8746

LONG BOW & RECURVE. This is a new publication but from the looks of their first issue they are going to be around for awhile. Good stories, good photo’s and 100% of it is aimed at the traditional archer. Even if you don’t prefer the traditional way to shoot, it’s a good idea to get a magazine like this or TRADITIONAL BOWHUNTER to see some the lore and methods used by those who enjoy the simpler way to hunt. Bowhunting.Net on-line: Thinking about it. For subscription info 601-287-5003

The following magazines are not devoted 100% to bowhunting but are great all around hunting magazines with some good all around hunting articles and great bowhunting coverage. I recommend all of them for their editorial content and bowhunting expertise for the most widely hunted game animal in the US.

BUCKMASTERS. What Jackie Bushman has done for deer hunting in building the BUCKMASTERS Membership club, tournament and this magazine is nothing short of remarkable. If you hunt whitetail deer this is one magazine you will want to have. Joining the club is also a great idea. For info call 334-215-3337

NORTH AMERICAN WHITETAIL. A member of the FISH AND GAME organization, this popular, nice reading magazine is focused on the Whitetail deer. It covers amazing trophies, old and new, and the people who take them. A good read. For info call 770-953-9222

DEER & DEER HUNTING. Probably the most in-depth, scientific journal for the whitetail hunter available. The is a quality publication with some of the most knowledgeable hunters/writer in the business. Again, if you hunt whitetail deer there is valuable information in every issue that will teach you something you can take into the field with you. For info call 715-445-2214 Also puts out a good turkey magazine too.

While there are many other fine magazines, these are some I think you will enjoy. Back To Where You Were.
