TIMING STEEL CABLE BOWS

One of the nice things about bows that use synthetic fiber bus cables is they are easy to 'time'. You can achieve perfectly synchronous wheel rollover simply by twisting (shortening) one bus cable or the other. Many archers think it's impossible to get that fine tuning capability on a bow that uses steel cables because when cutting and crimping steel cables, it is nearly impossible to end up with a perfectly matched pair.

Most people don't realize that you can twist steel cables to change their length just like you do with synthetic cables. Well, you can, but there are 3 things you must remember when twisting steel cables:

  1. Always loosen (lengthen) the cable. Never tighten (shorten) it.
  2. One twist in a steel cable will change the length much more than one twist in a synthetic cable.
  3. Always twist the cable one full revolution (360 degrees). Never twist it only one-half revolution (180 degrees) or the cable maybreak.
