Fill It Up – OH NO

Fred Lutger and Mike Ditchler (Chef Klaus) picked me up at the International Falls Airport at 10:30pm.  First thing, we went to McDonalds for fast food that we could travel with. We processed me through Customs and drove to bear camp and everybody hit the hay.

The next morning Chef Klaus worked his breakfast magic and cooked stuffed french toast. Boy, it was good.

Then we ran the baits and when that was done we drove to Atikokan to get my hunting license and wash clothes. We did the washing machine thing and went to Canoe Canada Outfitters and I got my hunting license and a bunch of other official Canadian hunting paperwork.

Then we tossed our laundry in the dryers and went to the Mines Cafe. I ordered a patty melt and french fries with gravy. The fries and gravy were good. But the patty melt sucked.

Afterward, we chucked the laundry in the Chef Klause truck and drove to the Canada CoOp to fill up. At the Canada CoOp they won’t let you pump your own fuel so a young guy came out and got to work while we went inside the little store. When we came back out the guy was still pumping our fuel and Fred said, “Oh no, you put gas in our diesel truck.”

I won’t go into the grim details but the CoOp boss came and siphoned everything out. That was not a fast process but all we could do was wait. When the whole deal was finally done the boss made us pay for the diesel.

When we finally arrived at camp it was past hunting time so none of us got to hunt. Everybody was tired too and we all took advantage of the messed up day and we hit the sack at 9:30.
