Calls From Knight & Hale
We used Knight & Hale
turkey calls exclusively on the Grand Slam bowhunt.
Doug Crabtree uses a whole handful of different diaphragm calls, plus slates
and a box call. The calls that work best for me are the "Cutters."
In particular "Walter's Chapmionship Cutter, a 3.5 reed call that makes
very realistic hen vocalizations. One of the things I like about this call
is that it is easy to switch from soft to loud as well as go from cutting
to yelps to soft clucks and other hen tones. Some calls favor loud or soft
tones and don't switch back and forth nearly as well as this call. Hale’s
Ultimate Split “V” IV worked great also. The Double-Sided Box Call was
useful when a Tom hung up and I needed a change of the sound. When I first
called I used the Mini Slate Friction Call because it had a very nice low
volume tone. With it I could tell if a gobbler was close to me without
blasting him out of the area. If there was no response I used the mouth
call to reach out and locate them. To Knight

Release Silver Bullet
Frankly, I always have trouble
whenever I use a new release. I prefer a wrist release, which this is,
and there always seems to be an issue over the length of the cord or cable
holding the caliper. The release I'd been using had a cord and it was much
shorter than the one on the Silver Bullet wrist release I received. I called
the company and found out that I could shorten it. Armed with that information
I shot it first. Surprise! It shot perfect, out of the box, ahh, actually,
out of the shrink wrap package. I was very surprised and totally pleased
that I wouldn't have to adjust it at all. The release tension is adjustable
also. But it was perfect and I didn't mess with it. If you too shoot with
a shooting loop you know that some caliper releases are not hook up friendly.
The Silver Bullet hooks up with no glitches. The shape of the caliper ends
are just right for hooking on the bowstring or a shooting loop. My groups
were tight from the get, and that's always a good thing. Two thumbs up
for the Pro Release Silver Bullet. To PRO-RELEASE
FINE-LINE
Peep Sights
Doug used the Ultra Glo
and I used the FINE-LINE Sta-Brite Peep. I've used the Sta-Brite before
and I was already sold on it. The rubber tubing always lines up your peep
sight up so you can see through it perfectly. That's definitely a good
thing when you are bowhunting. Plus the Sta-Brite has a large hole and
you can see through it all the time. Doug prefered the Ultra Glo. It too
has a large viewing hole plus the added feature of the fiber optic dots
around the peep cause you to automatically hold your bow right vertically
and it centers your eye in the middle of the shooting hole. Both are excellent
products. To FINE-LINE
