 When
Doug shot his first longbeard it stopped at the base of a tree and collapsed.
A 3rd longbeard ran to it and attacked it by jumping up and spurring it,
grabbing its snoodle and jerking its head around, and pecking it wildly.
As soon as Doug dropped his second tom
Fred grabbed his bow and crossed the fence into some cedars and quickly
circled to get into range of the attacking gobbler.
When Fred checked his position he was 40
yards from the birds. The longbeard was still pecking and spurring the
downed tom. When the attacking bird's head was behind the tree Fred quickly
moved to the fence. Now he was 30 yards from the birds.
Fred centered his 30 yard pin on the gobbler
and shot. It jumped straight up like it was going to fly but instead he
fell to the ground and rolled to a stop.
It was a longbeard Merriam's gobbler, his
second of the Nebraska leg of the Grand Slam 6-Pack.

EXP - "Normally I don't take a 30 yard shot on a wild turkey, but
the Innerloc expandable broadhead shoots like a dart, with no wind planing,
and I was confident I could make the longer shot with it."

Venom
Peep Sight - "It worked fine. Since I first used this peep a year
ago I've used nothing else."

Arrows - "I made my own arrows
using 5 1/2" white, shield cut, Tru-Flite feathers and a white Bohning
wrap. The larger feather and the wrap really shows up well on video. The
shafts were CX Carbon Express. I've shot them for years and feel
they are the strongest, straightest, best flying carbon shaft on the market.

is a handy tool for turkey hunters. It is a scale to weigh the birds. Plus,
it has a pull out metal tape measure for measuring the beard and spurs,
a pen to sign your tag, and it is a carrying handle to carry your tom.
I wanted to test the S.U.V.'s accuracy and we weighed the same tom with
2 different S.U.V's plus a game scale and all three showed exactly the
same weight.
