| The future of the archery world depends on those little ones that take
an interest in it. I was just five or six when I flung my first arrow
from a yellow fiberglass recurve that couldn't have drawn much more than
10 to 15 pounds.
I was around thirteen or so when I took to the woods on my first official
archery hunt. Later that season I knew I was hooked for life as I
sent an arrow just over a mature doe's back. I had judged the distance
somewhat farther than I had intended, but I guess I can blame that on the
adrenaline rush.
I have a young son that I hope to introduce to archery this summer.
It will be a few years before he takes to the woods on his first hunt.
For now just getting him to stay still for 10 seconds is a chore in itself.
But for now he asks a ton of questions and that is great because I know
he is interested.
Stacey Archery also has an interest in the youth of the archery world.
They offer several models of bows for youngsters. Great thing about
them is that as your youngster grows the bow can grow right along with
them. This evaluation is based on their all-new Mitey Mite Series
bow.
Doing a little research before the bow arrived led me to discover that
Stacey Archery offers this bow as either an Adult or Youth model.
Well to tell you the truth I was a little surprised when I opened up the
package to find the Youth model. Only thing is, is that this bow
doesn't even come close to the appearance of a youth model. Check
out this list of the impressive features, many not even seen on some of
today's adult bows.
The Mitey Mite Youth riser is of reflex design and is machined
entirely out of 6061-T6 aluminum. The riser also features a generous
site window and cut-out shelf. Complimenting the shelf is a removable
guard to insure protection from any arrow that may try to fall off during
the draw cycle. It is available in either black or gold color to
enhance your color scheme. Just below the shelf and above the grip
the riser is machined thinner to aid youngsters in proper thumb and forefinger
placement.
This is further enhanced by a beautiful two piece Rosewood grip.
The grip is held in place by machined cutouts and brass locking screw insert.
Moving further down the riser you will find a full length and adjustable
lock down cable guard. The steel insert mount for the cable guard
continues all the way through the riser. The opposite side allows
for any standard AMO stabilizer to be attached.
At this point on both sides you will find a gold painted inlaid machined
"Mitey Mite by Stacey" nameplate. Continuing outward, both ends of
the riser are fully complemented by a set of machined limb pockets.
These machined limb pockets, available in either black or gold, are set
in place with steel pivoting cylinders. These cylinders ensure proper
alignment. Finally the riser is hard anodized and can be ordered
in five colors or camouflaged in Mossy Oak Break-up.
The 13.5" limbs are straight and of split design, comprised of high
performance Power Glass Composite. Eccentrics on the
Mitey Mite are 100% machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and ride on titanium
axle pins. This model of Mitey Mite was fitted with baby speed cams.
The speed cams have a draw range of 22" to 27" through changeable
65% let-off modules. Stacey also offers draw ranges of 20" to 24"
and 22" to 26" through five step 65%-70% let-off wheels all of which can
be purchased in either black or gold.
Performance
The bow was set up with a brass nock and Golden Key rest. The
rest was installed with a standard AMO set screw. The measured poundage
from the Mitey Mite was measured and came in at 33 lbs. The bow was
marked 20 to 30 but came in a little on the heavy side. I believe
it could have gone a little further if the limbs were bottomed out.
At 33 lbs. the bow propelled at 230-grain arrow through the chronograph
at an average speed of 202 fps. This calculates foot pounds to be
approximately 21 ft-lbs. Not bad for a draw length that measured 25 inches.
With an upgrade of limbs to the Ohio hunting minimum of 40 lbs. and in
the hands of a licensed and practiced youth this bow should have no problems
helping to tag a whitetail!!

Quality: 9 of 10
Stacey defines quality first hand for this youth bow as they do for
their entire line. Tight tolerances and the latest in tooling make
Stacey Archery a top notch archery company.
Design: 9 of 10
Designed with the same features as an adults bow. It is intended
to grow as your youngster grows. AMO specifications throughout for
any accessories.
Value: 8 of 10
The Mitey Mite price tag comes in at around $250.00. Now you
may think this is a little expensive, but look at the quality and design.
It allows the bow to grow with your youngster via an upgrade kit for around
30 bucks. I have seen, first hand, people put more money into a youngsters
bow that he or she will outgrow in one year!
