Quiet Starr Packable Climbing Step System
from North Starr Treestands

"The five 42-inch sections are compact enough that they do not interfere with brush or tree limbs while packing in.  And the Quiet Starr quickly gets you up to 17.5 feet."

by Dave Conrad

The Quiet Starr is a packable Step Stix system that utilizes a unique hinge and locking collar for fast setup.  So unique that it is patented!

The system has five sections joined at each end by a pivoting hinge.  It conveniently collapses into a compact carrying system 42 inches in length. The 42-inch sections are compact enough that they do not interfere with brush or tree limbs while packing in.  When packing they measure from the top of my hat to the bottom of my pants seat, and amazingly get you quickly up to 17.5 feet.

The welded aluminum construction also means that for it's height it weighs in at a mere 10.5 pounds.  The lightweight stix is capable of holding a hunter weighing in as much as 275 lbs.  Combined with the Mega Starr stand this set-up allows for a complete hunting system that weighs in at just 22.5 pounds.

The stick ladder is easily setup by unfolding the ladder sections.  Next, at each section, depress spring-loaded buttons enabling the locking collars to slide over the hinges.  Now each hinge is secured and cannot be moved.  Fold out the stand-offs, which position the ladder away from the tree about 4 inches, and you are now ready to attach to the tree.

Climbing the Quiet Starr is a breeze thanks to the rungs, which are spaced at 14 inches and extend out evenly on both sides of the center section.  It allows a hunter to pause at any height and have both feet level.  This is very comfortable while setting up the stand and also for trimming foliage.  Extra security is assured because footholds are non-slip thanks to molded in traction ribs.

No nylon cords are used to anchor the ladder to the tree.  Instead the Quiet Starr utilizes ratchet straps meaning no tugging contest to get it snug enough or ugly knots and fatigued fingers.  Similar to the Mega Starr, the Quiet Starr utilizes open-ended ratchets for attaching to either side of the ladder.  In my case when it is time to take the stand down after the season ends in January, I look forward to the ratchet straps.  Ratchet straps are a breeze to take down when compared to frozen, tightly braided nylon ropes that can lead to frostbite by the time you're done.

To complete the takedown, lay the Quiet Starr down and retract each of the individual stand-offs.  Next finish by unhinging each section.  To unhinge just push up on the locking collars until the spring-loaded buttons lock them back into the retracting position.  Now simply fold the stix back to their compact 42-inch lengths and use the ratchets to snug everything into place.

Quiet Starr features:

  • Welded Aluminum
  • 42" Hinged Sections - no separate sections
  • 17.5 foot Height
  • 10.5 lbs. in weight
  • 275 lbs. stand capacity
  • 14" Rung spacing
  • Extruded Anti-Slip Rungs
  • Ratchet Strap Attachment
Design 4 out of 5
The lightweight aluminum is a blessing for a combination of lightweight and strength.  On a fairly straight tree the aluminum is just flexible enough to give a little.  The stand-offs combined with the ratchet straps secure the stix tightly to the tree.  I like the idea of hinged sections to help eliminate the noise of clanging separate pieces while trying to get them together.

Comfort 4 of 5
The 14-inch rungs should accommodate any size of hunter easily.  The rungs extending out on both sides is a great feature because you do not have to worry how to hand the stand when getting into or which foot goes first when getting out.

Ease of Use 5 of 5
The hinge system makes it a snap to put up.  As mentioned earlier no separate sections to fumble with and the open-ended ratchets are a great feature.

Quality 5 of 5
The hinge sections fit together nicely and are straight when fit together.  The rungs are made of one piece of straight aluminum that extends through the center section, not two individual pieces that could take away from strength.
