| Martin Cougar lives up to its name. THE COUGAR. Fast, sleek and ready
to throw an arrow at any prey. Its 40 1/8 axle-to-axle length gives it
long length but forgiveness and super quiet performance.
Does
it perform like it says it does? YOU BET! The brace height of 6 5/8" gives
it adequate length for speed Without giving up the built in forgiveness
and quiet performance. You might want to ask for the let off of 65%, as
the standard let off is 75%. The higher percentage is easy to hold and
quick but the 65% maybe better for shooting. You will get a little faster
speed and a faster release especially when shooting with fingers.
The mass weight of the bow is a mere 3lbs 15 ounces for a light but
steady bow that sits in your hand, rock steady with no top limb falling
forward or back.. it just sits there saying SHOOT ME. The choices of draw
lengths and weights are very wide. The weights start at 40 and can go to
70 lbs in ten pounds increments. The draw lengths are different. No inter
changeable modules in the Fury cam as you must specify your draw length.
But this is to your benefit as most bows, when you change modules lose
or gain performance when doing so. So make sure that you check you AMO
draw length. To the deepest part of the nock on string at full draw
to the deepest part of grip then add 13/4 inches.
Is this bow fast? Well let us see. I have shot a lot of bows with fingers
so I know what a lot do and this one is up there with most other ones if
not faster then most!
My draw length is 27' already I am at a disadvantage! Shooting 60 lbs
with both carbon and aluminum arrows the first time I let an arrow go I
said "WOW BABY!!!!!"
Now speed is not a do all or end all but people want to know so here
goes. Remember most if not all bows are measured at 30 inches and 70 lbs.
so I am doomed at 3 inches less of force and 10 pounds lighter in draw
weight. Using 2213 Easton Aluminum arrows @27 inches weighing 430 grains
(including 100 grain tips), the arrows shot at an average of 236.8 FPS!
Now remember, this was with a Saunders Tab, a Golden Key Funnel rest, no
stabilizer or string silencers (both of which might increase speed) and
no limb dampeners!
Intrigued by the speed, I tried carbon arrows. This time the average
was 252.8 fps! Now if I had a man's draw length of 29-30 and seventy
pounds I probably shot at least 25-35 fps more both Carbons and aluminums!
Think about that! With fingers no the less! What would a release do?
The metal, machined cams performed flawlessly and accurately putting groups
in a 2' circle shot after shot at 20 yards!
The machined riser is equipped with the VEM system, vibration escape
module, virtually making the bow shock free. The hardwood handle
inlays are factory installed and give this bow a great feeling bow grip.
The looks are even more enhancing! The sharp looking Advantage Timber will
match any terrain or choose the Grey phantom camo plus the multitude
of target colors. Guess what my next bow is going to be?
This bow must be classed with some of the best bows for its money!
In the ballpark of $499.99, quality at this price is hard to beat.
