EZ-Tune 100 Arrow Rest - Golden Key Futura
by Jon E. Silks

One thing I like to see in any product I buy, archery or otherwise, is simple quality. What is simple quality? It is the top-notch engineering that allows average guys like me enjoy the benefits of advanced technology.

GKF's new EZ-Tune 100 is a good example of this type of product. It doesn't have a dozen little gadgets all over it but it performs like a champ and is priced to sell.

First inspection of the EZ-Tune revealed flawless machining and a simple sleek appearance. The entire rest is constructed of metal except for the Hush Tubes that cover the TM Hunter style launcher pins. The rest consists of the following: Base mounting bracket (anodized aluminum); Steel 5/16" mounting bolt; Steel anti-pivot screw; Brass launcher module; Steel launcher stopping set screw covered with plastic tubing; Steel pinch bolt; Steel launcher pins; Plastic Hush Tubes; Steel launcher holder rod; Steel spring endcap; and Steel inside endcap. All parts were operational and the rest had a "solid" feel to it.

Testing began with the initial mounting on my new Darton Magnum 33. The EZ-Tune fit nicely on my rig and the anti-pivot screw locked everything in place. The next step was to perform the preliminary setup including center shot, launcher angle and launcher spring tension. I simply followed the instructions that accompanied the rest and was ready to shoot and fine-tune in no time. One note of caution: make sure that the launcher holder rod is extended far enough so that any fine horizontal adjustments made down the road can be can be made by way of the launcher module. This should avoid the loss of correct launcher angle because the launcher module does not spin as easily as the launcher holder rod when loosened. Next on the testing checklist was durability. Durability was tested by shooting a high number of shots through the rest after fine-tuning was complete. At this point I checked the rest over and paper tested it again to confirm tuning. There were no obvious problems with the rest and the paper test remained the same. The hush tubes did not come with a "shot rating" however they were in need of replacement between 120 and 150 shots using my carbon express arrows. As always one of my main concerns was quietness and the EZ-Tune 100 faired well in this category. This test took place out in the woods away from any background noise. The hush tubes did their job and kept my arrow relatively quiet as it was drawn over the rest.

All in all the EZ-Tune is a great buy. You get expensive rest features in a model that sells for around $25.00. Don't like the launchers that came with the rest? No problem! Give GKF a call and select from over 20 additional launcher styles. This is a versatile rest at a base model price!

Design: 3.75 of 5
The versatility of this rest gives it a good score and for the price the design is good. Suggested improvements: Independent adjustments - This is a big one with me. When you have more than one variable tied in with a single adjustment you are asking for a headache. Another possible improvement is the use of a single wrench size for all adjustments. The rest is advertised as single wrench adjustable and technically that is true if you have their special wrench with two different sizes on it. One wrench of one size is readily obtainable from any source and therefore more desirable.

Value: 4.25 of 5
At approximately $25.00 for the rest you are assured of good value. It functions well, does its job and is inexpensive! What more could you want?

Durability: 4.5 of 5
The EZ-Tune I received is still going strong and shows no sign of weakness. The simple design adds to the strength of the overall package.
