The Easton Gamegetter III Yukon
by Art Champoux

Being a member of Easton Select allows you many benefits. One of which is being able to receive merchandise from their product testing group. That is a benefit that is part of your club membership. Any member might get surprised by being selected. Well I was.

They notified me and asked me what size shaft I wanted to try. They told me I was going to evaluate the Yukon. I asked what the Yukon was and they told me it is a new arrow shaft from Easton. I told them I shot 2213 from my compounds and they said they would send me some shafts in a month. The shafts were an intense anticipation of what the Yukon was or was not.

When the box arrived I opened the package to discover the newest entry to Easton's arsenal - a dark bronze shaft equipped with super Uni Bushing and Super Nocks all ready installed. On the shaft was the Easton logo and 'Gamegetter III Yukon' in standard Easton fashion. The finish is noticeably darker than autumn orange and has a dull bronze finish to the shaft. It is great looking. Economy with quality.

Well down to Big Al's Archery I went. We installed three barred feathers to the shaft, two gray barred and one orange barred cock feather, and they came out super looking. We cut the shafts to my 27 1/2" arrow length and installing the inserts. What a great looking arrow.

One way to ensure any alignment of a Uni Bushing nock is to place the arrow on the rest and snap the nock on the string. Then by twisting the arrow shaft you can get the feathers or vanes to pass the rest perfectly.
Quick, easy and effective.

Shooting the arrows was next.

Out of 12 arrows I randomly picked six, installed points and went up to the indoor target butts. My Golden Eagle was set at 55 lbs installed with a Huntmaster 2000 (my choice of arrow launcher). Out of six shots with fingers, all my new Yukon's went where I aimed. Six shots in a six-inch group at twenty yards shooting with fingers.

Then came my longbow. Shooting off the shelf out of a Bear Montana the arrows continued to group well even though it shot a little low compared to my compound.

My recurve was next. The arrows again shot as well as I did. No six-inch groups but they were grouped with each other in another part of the target. All bows were shot with a Saunders Fab Tab.

Consistency was excellent. Flight was above average and looks better then my expectations.

Shaft sizes are 2016, 2114, 2117, 2213, 2216, 2314, 2315, and 2413. This shaft is perfect for novice and experienced hunters traditional or compounds.

Ratings from 1-5. 1 being lowest 5 being highest

  • Consistency 5
  • Looks 5
  • Versatility 5
  • Quality 5
  • Price n/a but assured it would be lower then xx75
  • Materials 5 (easton means quality everything)
  • Dependability 5
If you are looking for a dependable aluminum arrow shaft this is it. The low cost of a Gamegetter combined with the high standards of a xx75 shaft are hard to beat. The dark bronze camo's better then autumn orange and the Uni nocks allow you to tune the arrow to the rest fast and easy. So if you want a superior product at an affordable price go to the Yukon. You will not be sorry.
