Let
me paint a scenario which I am sure most of you have been through.
You are doing some target shooting or 3D practice with a few of your friends
and the shots just keep getting more challenging. You're shooting
some expensive arrows and are a little hesitant at first but feel you are
up to the long distance challenges. Next thing you know you're missing
a couple arrows. And no matter how hard you search you haven't a
clue where they are under the forest floor.
Another scenario is you are working on your bow out in the field.
You have your all in one tool and are making some adjustments on your bow
attachments that use small hex screws. Oops, you drop one in the
matted down dead grass and think, don't move, cause you know exactly where
it fell. Ten minutes later you are still frantically searching, hoping
to find it so you can get everything back together and out on stand.
You just made what you thought was a perfect shot on a nice sized buck
but he didn't seem to slow while making his get away. You know it
was a pass through as you saw your arrow bury in the leaves on the forest
floor. The blood type or matter on your arrow will surely confirm
the hit, if only you could find it.
Sound familiar? It should because at some point in your bowhunting
career it is bound to happen. What can possibly help you out in these
types of situations?
It
is called the Recover Arrow Detection System and if you know anything about
metal detectors, think of this one as portability and simplicity at the
end of your arrow. Portable because the Recover only weighs 6 ounces and
measures 10 3/8" by 2 3/8". This makes it is small enough to fit
into any backpack or fanny pack. Simple because all you have to do is insert
a 9-volt battery and turn it on. When the Recover is activated, by depressing
a button, a green LED intermittently flashes indicating everything is operating
properly. As soon as a metal object is detected, the LED changes
to a steady red while a beeping/chirping sound is omitted.
For convenience an integrated screw allows you to mount the device at the
end of an arrow.
You
simply take an arrow out of your quiver, remove the broadhead or field
point and screw on the Recover. Now you can scan the ground easily
holding your arrow at waist height, thereby eliminating the need to stoop
or bend over.
Just how effective is this handy little tool? It has no problem
picking up any metal object, including gold and silver. My testing
indicated the Recover would identify metals buried up to 4 inches in loose
soil. That is more than adequate to find any arrow. I also
did several other types of testing to see just how effective the Recover
was. I used it to scan my walls and window trim to detect drywall
screws and small nails. The Recover had no problem finding them.
I then went out to my wife's flower garden and started scanning.
In no time I had found an old rusted and deteriorating metal shard that
was too small to recognize what its use had been. I scanned
a piece of thick cement that had rebar running through it and was amazed
when the device started chirping. I also found that the best approach
when using the Recover is a steady sweeping action waved over the intended
targeted area. Using the sweeping action allows the user to cover
a wide area in a short amount of time.
If you shoot wooden arrows or pure carbon the Recover will still find
them. Since any arrow is still comprised of metal, such as a broadhead,
field point, insert or outsert the device will have no problem detecting
it. So next time you are in your archery shop or online (www.arrowrecover.com)
invest in the Recover Arrow Detection System.
Design: 5 of 5 - Weighing in around six ounces and about the
size of a ruler you can take the Recover with you. I should easily
slide into your backpack. By fitting it onto the end of your arrow
you can easily scan an area without undue stress on your back or knees.
Price 4.5 of 5 - The list price of $75 is certainly reasonable
for a product of this nature. Some however, might think this
a little steep, but compared to the cost of a dozen top of the line carbons
or ACC's, it will pay for itself over a relatively short period of time.
Besides you can use it for more than just retrieving arrows. It will
also come in handy around the house.
Easy of Use: 5 of 5 - It can not get any simpler. All you
have to do is basically insert a 9-volt battery (not included) and power
it on. The convenience of the built in arrow attachment makes the
scanning action quick and easy. Matter of fact the Recover utilizes
a low frequency range meaning it is safe to use with health related devices
such as pacemakers.
