| I have had the good fortune to be able to test some of the best bows
on the planet including some from Darton Archery. Darton has always
been known for its hard-hitting, fast shooting bows and the Darton RENEGADE
is certainly no exception.
While
I have shot some real barnburners like the Darton 'TechFire', I wanted
to get my hands on a longer axle-to-axle bow to see how that shot. The
RENEGADE was my choice. The RENEGADE is 43" axle-to-axle with a die cast
magnesium riser equipped with straight composite limbs and MKIV energy
cam with synthetic cables. The bow came with 75% let-off and 26"
draw in a quality Woodland forest camo that should fit well in any terrain.
Draw length modules are available in 7 draw lengths from 26 to 32! Finding
a bow for fingers shooters over 38" is difficult and over 40 is a Godsend
so this bow at 43" is what I consider the ultimate for anyone finger shooter.
I am here to tell you that this bow is one sweet shooting bow that will
flat spit out an arrow.
This bow, set at 56 pounds, a brace height of 6 ¾" and a 26"
module shot 27" XX75, 2213. I installed a Golden Key 'Funnel Rest'
with a Shurz-A-Peep and Sims String Leeches. I chose not to add my usual
Golden Key 'Tranquilizer' Stabilizer to really get the feel and sound of
the bow.
So up to the range at Big Als Archery I went to put this bow through
the Pro Chrono. One of my friends was shooting when I pulled down the chronograph
and asked if he could watch. I always encourage that. That way I have a
witness. He stood to one side checking that my bow was level shot after
shot and helped me keep track of the speeds. The arrows went sliding off
my Saunders finger tab at 222, 222, 225, 228 and 227 fps. The average speed
for this long bow with a finger tab was 224.8. Keep this in mind, 26" draw
at 56 lbs.
Now my friend was impressed. He asked if he could put his arrows through
the Chronograph for a comparison. Secretly I was thinking he wanted to
blow my finger shooter away. He was shooting a $600.00 bow at 50
lbs with a $50.00 arrow rest, carbon arrows and a mechanical release. He
averaged 234 fps, only ten feet per second more then I did with the RENEGADE.
Now everyone was impressed with this Darton.
This Darton with its straight limbs and forgiving nature reminds me
of the days when compounds were long, forgiving and easy to shoot and tune
with no finger pinch and no need for a string loop. The only difference
was this Darton was so much faster. Back in the 70s and 80s when an arrow
went 200 fps that was considered very fast. Remember that AMO specs are
60 lbs at 30" with a 540-grain arrow. So imagine what this bow would shoot
with 4 more inches of draw, 4 more lbs, a release and a stabilizer. I can
tell you this, from the sound of the arrows hitting the Morrell target,
it packs some real penetrating punch.
I have said this in other articles and the RENEGADE just cements it,
Darton Archery excels in making bows that are fast, forgiving and well
priced. When I put on Limb Savers and my Golden key Tranquilizer Stabilizer,
I expect this bow to do over 230 fps at 26" draw!!! That is almost unheard
of in finger shooting.
I was amazed at the way this bow shot. I was absolutely floored at what
it cost to get it.
You cannot find better any where at any price in fact, with what you
save on this bow, you'll have a bunch left over for all those accessories
you couldn't afford if you bought one of the high priced bows.
The RENEGADE is a super bow, well made, fast, smooth, forgiving and
it carries a ten year warranty. All, are you ready for this? for
$139.99!
Like they say in their catalog, "You can certainly pay more for a bow,
but why would you?"
