by Dave Conrad ![]() ![]() Robinson Laboratories, the originator of the Scent Elimination products
with their popular Scent Shield line and full line of Scents and Lures,
has developed two new products to aid in QDM. Buck Science Bi-Agra is a
supplement that contains critical vitamins and minerals to aid in a healthy
deer herd. Supplementing with Bi-Agra is essential to bucks in aiding antler
development from the time they shed their antlers until the time of removing
velvet. Does also benefit from the nutritional requirements as well, especially
when nursing
Buck Science Ultra Protein Antler Blend is an accelerated growing perennial loaded with a balanced combination of high protein and fiber. It has been developed to withstand harsh weather, temperature and soil conditions. Fast germination times range from 2 to 7 days with maturity in as little as two to three weeks. Bi-Agra The Bi-Agra comes packaged in either a five or ten pound easy to carry plastic container. The directions stated a 10-lb. container was adequate for every 40 to 60 acres of deer habitat. Application of the Bi-Agra was very simple. You just unscrew the lid and pour the contents out in a circular pile directly on the ground. I did this in a well-traveled wooded area where no more then four trails intersected off of two ridges. Within one week I checked the progress and was amazed at the results. My circular pattern had more than doubled in size with the ground being pawed up. I could still make out traces of the supplement but most of that was mixed thoroughly with pawed dirt. Further visits revealed the area getting deeper with all the pawing. The next visit will require me to setup my infrared camera to capture the frequency of visits as well as the number of bucks versus does. Ultra Protein Antler Blend My 5/8ths-acre plot had a good mix of fertile soil, good drainage, with one end having a slight content of clay. The plot was prepared by mowing in late May and spraying with Round Up to control the existing growth. During the first week in June the plot was roughed up utilizing a disc and the seed was spread with a walk-behind lawn spreader and/or hand sewn. The directions called for 10 lbs. per acre, which was made easy because the blend was conveniently packed in a 10-lb. jug. As mentioned earlier my plot was under an acre, as I always like to put down seed a little heavier than what is called for. After planting the soil was loosely raked with a lawn tractor and a piece of wire mesh fence. Rain was welcomed with the next day and the plot germinated quickly within a week, some as quickly as 3 days. Within two weeks tracks confirmed deer were feeding within the area. A doe and her fawn were detected one evening as they walked directly to the plot while grazing from the woods. Five bucks were also sighted a few days later with one supporting a velvet rack with antlers sweeping just beyond his ears. No telling how much larger this boy will get in the coming months, but you can bet I will be closely monitoring his progress. CONCLUSIONS It seems both these products perform as advertised in attracting deer. The sightings combined with the hoof marks and pawed ground confirm this. The Ultra Protein Antler Blend was purposely planted in a soil that contained a slight mixture of clay just to see how it would respond. This however did not seem to deter its growth. I find this to be a plus because most soil blends require a certain level of fertilizer or preparation work. My food plot was disced and then just hand sown. The first seedlings emerged within 3 days and were truly grown within the three-week timeframe. The Ultra Protein Antler Blend contains a mix of Ladino Clover, Medium red, White Dutch, Rape, Alfalfa and a Robinson Special Variety. In my area of Ohio the mix can be sown from mid April to mid-October and in most southern state year round. The Bi-Agra, as noted earlier, was visited within a week of dispersing and the ground looked as though a rototiller had been used to churn up the forest floor. Subsequent visits revealed an ever-widening area being pawed up. In the following months I expect a hole to develop as deer paw deeper to get to the minerals that have soaked into the soil. These two products prove to me that Robinson Laboratories have been successful in broadening their whitetail product lines. I look forward with anticipation to future products from this industry leading company. For more information go to: www.RobinsonLabs.com
