Fletcher Field Tool by Jim Fletcher Archery
by Jon E. Silks
Compact, Versatile and Convenient are three suitable words for describing the Fletcher Field Tool. How many times have you been in the field and had a piece of your equipment fail or need adjustment? It has happened to me on several occasions throughout my 20 years of hunting and as you may have guessed, I had no tool to remedy the problem/s. Many bowhunters, myself included, are extremely picky about the amount of gear that they carry into the field - less is better! Generally that means that no tools make the list of fanny-pak stuffers and any misfortune in the field could end up as a hunt-stopper. At a mere 6.1oz the Field Tool is a good solution to the problem.

Testing
To evaluate the versatility of the field tool I simply worked through most of my equipment trying all of the different tools offered. Only two hex bolts/screws were found that could not be adjusted with the Allen wrenches available on the tool. One of these was the tension adjustment screw found on my Scott Archery Little Bitty Goose release and the other was a small hex bolt on my Silent Solution Arrow Rest. The adjustable wrench fit most bolt heads and nuts on my treestand, Muzzy Zero Effect Arrow Rest, and various other accessories. Again, only two items were found that could not be adjusted. The first was the stabilizer adapter that came with my wrist sling and the second was a bolt used to attach my stabilizer. Other than some rounded edges, both screwdrivers were sufficient to get the job done. The Fletcher Field Tool also incorporates a three-blade broadhead wrench that is machined directly into the anodized aluminum body. The broadhead wrench worked well on all three, three-blade broadheads in my tackle box. Most nuts, bolts and screws were easily accessed using the Field Tool with only a few exceptions in extremely tight spaces.

Versatility:  4 of 5
With the exception of a few oddball screws and bolts, the Fletcher Field Tool is able to handle most jobs encountered in the field.
Suggested improvements: The addition of scissors would be beneficial for a variety of tasks.

Quality:  3 of 5
The broadhead wrench, Allen wrenches and machined aluminum body are of good quality. The anodizing is also done well.
Suggested improvements: Upgrade the quality of the screwdrivers and adjustable wrench.

Affordability:  4 of 5
A suggested retail price of $25.00 will most likely show up as a cost to you anywhere from 19.00 to 25.00 depending on your source. One hunt saved by the Field Tool will more than justify the low cost!

Convenience:  4.5 of 5
Again, the Field Tool can be taken on hunts almost unnoticed. You will be glad you packed it when the need arises. Just don't forget it is in your fanny-pak!
