DAY #4
When we awoke on morning 4 the wind was blowing and it was still raining.
After a quick look outside Coondog and I decided to stay in and wait for
the weather to break so back to bed we went. Around 9:30 am, while sitting
at the table the rain stopped but the wind was still roaring. Coondog and
I decided to fish and wait on better weather plus Owen was expected back
in camp sometime today.
Before we started fishing we had a few bear duties to take care
of. The first bait we came to had been hit and hit hard. There was a huge
bear track, which was at least 6 1/2 inches across the pad and a hole dug
as big as a kitchen table with the barrel lying in the hole. We re-baited
and went to the next bait site, which also had been hit. Three out of the
five baits were hit, two of which hit hard. All right chores were done
and time to fish.
We took our time going back to camp and fished for a couple of hours
in which my arms were tired from fighting all the pike we caught and went
back to camp.
Around 3:30 Owen arrived and told us that the weather was supposed
to be good tonight and tomorrow. It made me wonder if he just wanted to
go with us on the good days, but I didn’t mind we were having a great time.
That
evening we decided to hunt Dumbbell Lake for the first time. Dumbbell Lake
is spring fed and provides most of the water for Mon’s Lake and sits on
the south end of the property. We arrived around 4:30 and got in position
for the evening.
Owen did the entire calling with the same result that I had the previous
two days ”NOTHING”. It made me feel a lot better knowing it wasn’t
my calling.
At dark we went in and had a great fish dinner and went to bed. Going
to sleep would be tuff this night due to Owen's snoring. It sounded like
a Huskavarna chain saw was in the bedroom and Owen had the gas wide open.
Maybe tomorrow will be the day.
