DAY #2 - Moose Calling
Owen
had to go back to base camp and see Charlie Grub and his boys off. They
had been hunting bear in Owen's bear camp all week and had taken 4 nice
bear.
Coondog and I hunted Mons Lake again and I did the calling for us. I
had been practicing for two months watching video footage -- and driving
everyone around work crazy.
The morning tempter was 56 % and the wind was calm. The mosquitoes were
a little hungry but not to bad.
After several fatal attempts at calling with no response I wondered
if my calling was sounding like a moose or a Misquitoes attractant.
We had no luck so at 10:30 we headed to camp. Owen had 4 bear hunters
coming in next week so we told him we would take care of the bear baits
for him.
Don and I checked the baits and added some sweet stuff to all of them.
Only one bait had been hit and by the size of the track it was a small
bear. After completing our baiting duties we went in and ate lunch.
After a nap we returned to Mons Lake for the evening hunt. We both talked
about the big bull that was on us the day before and were hoping to get
another chance. The temperature continued to climb during the day and making
the mosquitoes even more hungry.
My calling didn't seem to be working, was it due to the heat or was
I saying something wrong -- only time would tell. By dark we had not heard
or seen a thing but still enjoyed the peace and quite. Maybe Tomorrow would
be the day.
