Moose Bound -- Peddle
To The Metal

After packing up the truck and loading the four wheeler and coolers
on the trailer it was time for Don Nye AKA (Coon Dog), my father Doug Crabtree
and myself to drive to Canada for our first moose hunt.
We took a going away snap shot and started our trip.
Doug Crabtree Sr., Ron
Nye (Coon Dog) and Doug Crabtree.
There was a lot of excitement about this hunt since I had been waiting
6 years to hunt moose with Missinaibi Outfitters owner and operator Owen
Korpela.

After crossing the bridge into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we rested
for the night. The next morning we awoke and continued our drive. After
a slight customs check at the Sue Saint Marie Bridge we were finally in
Canada. With just six hours to Hearst, Canada, we put the hammer down and
traded daylight for dark.
We made only one stop in a small town when we had to get gas. (By the
way, if you are ever up here make sure you always take five gallons of
extra gas just in case.) We arrived in Mattice, Canada around 8:00pm and
met with our guide Owen. The weather was cold and we were ready to get
after them.
The next morning and half the day was spent getting our equipment into
the base camp on Lake Mons. Around 3:00pm we finally had everything in
camp and were ready for our first morning's hunt. To
First Day of The Hunt...
