Overdraw Vs Standard

Fred LutgerAdding an Overdraw to your bow will allow you to shoot shorter arrows. Reducing arrow length increases the spine stiffness of a given arrow. This will allow you to change to a lighter spined arrow for the same peak weight on the bow you shoot. This means is a lighter weight arrow can be shot out of your bow with the addition of an overdraw. A lighter arrow will give you greater velocity and a flatter trajectory. At unknown distances this can be a real advantage for keeping the arrow in the kill zone. As distance increases, this can become more of an advantage due to the flatter trajectory.

Increasing bow speed has been the focus of most bow companies these past few years. The bowhunters and 3-D shooters want more speed so bow companies have made changes to their bows to increase speed. This has been accomplished with cams that hold more stored energy, fast flight string materials with less stretch and reflex riser designs that lengthen a bow's power stroke. If you want more speed from your present bow, an overdraw will increase your speed as long as you make an arrow change.
