New Fred Bear Book!

Someone in Hollywood once asked cowboy actor Ben Johnson how it felt to always play sidekick and second fiddle to John Wayne.  "Somebody's gotta hold the horses," Johnson replied with a wide grin.

Dick Lattimer held Fred Bear's horses.  He was a sidekick,  public relations and marketing man, and was like a son to the legendary bowhunter Fred Bear.  Now for the first time he has published his own book on Fred that will soon be available from Greg Gutschow at I-Hunt Communications.

One of the benefits of having spent 33 years in archery is the friends I have made along life's trail.   Dick Lattimer is one of my favorite folks from the archery industry.  I was around 12 the first time I met Dick.   He was Fred's right hand man and I never saw Fred in the years I knew him that Dick wasn't a stone's throw away.  I know this book will be great because no one could have been closer to Fred than Dick.

His eulogy of Papa Bear is one of the finest outdoor pieces I have ever read.  It still brings tears to my eyes.    If you have never read it drop me an email and I will try to find a copy of it for you.

Here's some information on the new book, in Dick's own words.  I hope you will  get a copy of this book!

"I Remember Papa Bear"

Dear Friend of Fred Bear:

I wanted to let you know that Gregg Gutschow at IHUNT Communications is publishing my new book "I Remember Papa Bear." Gregg recently published two Chuck Adams books, as you might know. My book will be out in February. There will be a special limited edition of signed and numbered deluxe leather-bound copies available for $84.95. Then the regular press run of hardbacks will be priced at $24.95.

People have been urging me for many years to write this book and I've resisted, since so much of my own life would have to be in it to adequately tell Fred's story. But as several people have told me, if I don't tell his story, today's generation of bowhunters and archers will never know the tremendous influence he had on our sport. You may know I was his alter ego in those days traveling around the country, especially in Washington, D.C., even before my days with AMO, helping to promote and preserve our bowhunting and archery traditions. This is the story of all of that behind-the-scenes work that he wanted done.

If you would like copies of "I Remember Papa Bear" you can contact Gregg Gutschow, P.O. Box 1148, Chanhassen, MN 55317-1148. Gregg's fax number is 952-949-2800. I hope you can see your way clear to help us keep the memory of Fred Bear alive!  The book is still in the editing stages, but the working Table of Contents is below for your info.

          Best regards,
          Dick Lattimer
