President Comes to West Virginia
West Virginia is "W" Country
Thanks to some friends (you know who you are) I was able to attend the
ticketed only event where President Bush spoke this afternoon in Parkersburg,
West Virginia.
I drove two hours early this morning
to get there and was seated almost 4 hours. It was worth every
second of it. As the President entered he was greeting people, saw
my hat and grinned and said, "I like that hat" about my cowboy hat.
I gave him a thumbs up and he returned the greeting.
This marks the second time I've
seen President Bush in West Virginia. I also went to see Ronald Reagan
in Parkersburg in 1984.
President Bush and a few others
spoke and the President was interrupted several times with standing ovations.
He has been to West Virginia many times since taking office. It was
a GREAT speech and very upbeat and exciting. The emphasis was his
"No child left behind" program and he also touched on the war.
He captured the audience and it was clear that his message was warmly received
After the speech the president
did a quick meet and greet as he left the building. He again said,
"I like that hat" and I thanked him and told him I'd met Marc Racicot that's
running his national campaign and that I would be working hard for his
reelection. I asked him if we could get a photo together
and he said, "Sure".
That was a great moment and one I'll remember for a long time.
A friend of mine and Amanda's also snapped a few photos while I was talking
with the President. It was a huge honor for me.
I will try and get the photos of
the President and I on the website sometime next week. Amanda had
a trade show and couldn't make it, I was sorry she wasn't able to be there
with me. However, she went with me the last time I saw the President.
(I got her up at 5 AM that day...she often reminds me of that.)
The excitement was in the air and
West Virginians loudly shouted "4 more years" as he left the building.
He's a great man and someone I respect very much. His speech
today mentioned so many of the things my show touches on---character, values,
freedom and faith.
THANKS to the Bush-Cheney folks,
Congresswoman Shelly Moore Capito's Office, and everyone else who helped
with this great event. It was a success and we hope the President
will return to the mountain state again soon.
