I had the pleasure of sharing a stage at an event a few months ago in Detroit,
Michigan with Wayne LaPierre, the Executive Vice President of the NRA.
I shot a baby aspirin the first shot from mid air and presented him with
the remains of the baby aspirin. He gave a great pep talk to the
crowd about what the NRA stands for and is doing to protect our second
amendment rights. I was so impressed with what they are doing
I not only renewed my membership but I enrolled as a LIFEMEMBER.
Why? There's strength in
numbers my friends. At 4 million strong the NRA is a force to be
reckoned with on Capitol Hill. They are not only watchdogs, they
are bigdogs! Nothing gets a politician's attention like a 4 million
member organization.
Imagine what would happen in this
country if every bowhunter, fisherman, turkey hunter, grouse hunter, duck
hunter, elk hunter, etc. joined and we were truly one voice. Powerful
huh? That's my point.
We can do just that. And
unite we must. This is a critical time in our nation's history.
George W. Bush is a sportsman and supporter of the second amendment.
Not since Teddy Roosevelt's days have we enjoyed having such an active
hunter in the Whitehouse.
This afternoon I read in the May
issue of the NRA's American Hunter on page 10 in Wayne LaPierre's "Standing
Guard" column that John Kerry has voted against second amendment issues
51 out of 55 times in the senate. Read it for yourself.
See why Kerry has been ranked as one of the most solid "F" rated candidates
ever rated by the NRA.
Recently I sat in on a round table
luncheon with Gov. Mark Racicot and Congress woman Shelly Moore-Capito.
Gov. Racicot is the national Chairman of the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign.
It was great to hear that so many sportsmen and women are lining up behind
the President.
We must. This is critical.
My friend Ted Nugent put it as only Ted can in a recent email. He
said, "The American Dream hinges on honest independence, rugged individualism,
& a heart & soul work ethic. President Bush stands for "we
the people" who live to be the best we can be. I'm voting for George
W. Bush. Ted Nugent."
Add to that this partial quote
from Rev. Stacy Groscup about the President, "...he has already exhibited
the courage, foresight, wisdom and spiritual values that has made our nation
great and free."
To the good Rev. Groscup's quote
and Ted's quote I can only add, "Amen."
Many times bowhunters say, "But
I am not political." Friends it's time to start. Our future
depends on it. This will be a vital election and very close.
We bowhunters need to be united.
Until Next Time, Shoot Straight.
