| MyTopo.com,
the leading provider of customized, print-on-demand topo maps for hikers,
hunters, and other outdoor enthusiasts, today announced a new partnership
with TopoGrafix, a Medford, MA-based company that produces software for
GPS users. The partnership allows GPS users to custom design beautiful,
large-format (24" x 36") Expedition Maps, centered exactly on any waypoint
they choose (either from the field, or from downloaded waypoints).
The custom maps are printed on water-proof, tear-resistant, lightweight
paper and shipped within 24 hours. Each map costs $14.95, and the
print-on-demand service is available through www.mytopo.com and www.topografix.com.
A customized version of EasyGPS, TopoGrafix's custom software for users
of Garmin, Magellan, and Lowrance GPS Units, is available for free download
on myTopo's website. The software allows GPS users to create, edit
and transfer waypoints and routes between the user's computer and GPS unit.
Topografix also offers ExpertGPS and Panterra, software products that
allow GPS users to store, edit, retrieve, and map GPS waypoints and routes
on topo and aerial maps. These software products are available for upgrade
from the myTopo.com version of EasyGPS.
"Many of our customers are GPS users, and we are pleased to be able
to offer them a way to quickly find topomaps using waypoints, and be assured
that their maps are centered with the precision today's GPS technology
allows," said Kevin Toohill, founder and chief technology officer of myTopo.com.
"The integration of TopoGrafix's user-friendly software and myTopo.com's
print-on-demand service for custom topo maps is great news for GPS users."
MyTopo.com is the only company offering the ability to order custom,
large-format topo maps online. On myTopo.com's website, customers can make
their own map centered anywhere in the US, and have their name and a title
printed on the map. The service, which has been available since last Fall,
has been extremely well-received by the outdoor industry. Outside Magazine,
Field and Stream, American Hunter, Paddler, and many other well-known publications
have given myTopo positive reviews, and within six months of being in business,
the company had customers in all 50 states.
"MyTopo's customized maps with GPS grid overlays are ideally suited
for use with handheld GPS receivers", said Dan Foster, founder of TopoGrafix.
"The ability to create rugged, waterproof maps for any location in the
U.S. will
allow our users to navigate with total confidence in the outdoors.
We are very excited to have myTopo's print-on-demand service integrated
with our GPS software products."
MyTopo.com, based in Red Lodge, MT, is wholly-owned by Beartooth Mapping,
