Tuning Made Easy For DARTON's C/P/S Single Cam System

by Rex Darlington
Some shooters have made the statement that you can never get a single cam bow to shoot as well as a two-cam bow that is in proper tune. They back this up by saying that you can tweak nock travel (arrow flight) by how you alter the synchronization of the cams.

This type of adjustment is accomplished on a two-cam bow by having one cam timed to reach full draw before the other. While it is true that this will affect arrow flight, the results are not always desirable. Go too far one way and you can kick the arrow into the rest causing erratic flight and a very difficult situation to tune. Go the other way and you might miss the sweet spot and have to settle for something less than optimum arrow flight, spending a lot more time tuning than you expected.

Playing with cam synchronization mainly affects the first 2 inches of nock travel and that is the most critical part of the power stroke. With single cam bows this is not an issue and that is one reason they have been so universally accepted.

Another potential problem that occurs when adjusting cam synchronization is that you can affect the feel of the bow when you reach the end of the draw stroke. One draw stop will hit a power cable before the other creating a condition that can feel like a soft stop before you hit the wall. This can't happen with a single cam bow.

The Darton C/P/S offers the best of both worlds without any of the problems of a two-cam bow. So if you are one of those individuals who likes to add that personal touch to your equipment the C/P/S is for you. If you follow the tuning instructions supplied with each DARTON bow you will have straight, level nock travel. Now here is where you can get involved;

  1.  Shorten the Control Cable by twisting it 2-3 turns at a time and you change the path of   the nock to where it travels in a straight downward slope when released.
  2.  Lengthen the Control Cable by taking 2-3 twists out and you change the path of the nock to where it travels in a straight upward slope when released.
By tuning your nock travel in this manner you are not causing anything erratic to happen any where in the power stroke and it allows you one more way to fine tune your bow to match your equipment. We do feel that most of the time you will end up back at the original factory settings.
