| Brian Smith, who became a Bowtech shooter at the beginning of 2001,
won his class in The IBO World Championship and The Best of the Best competition
held in August at Snowshoe Mountain in Snowshoe, West Virginia. The competition,
held August 3, 4, and 5, brings together the best archery shooters in the
world. More than 400 shooters had entered the Hunter Class in which Smith
competed.
The
victory for Smith is also a huge victory for Bowtech. Smith had switched
to using a Bowtech Pro 38 in January of this year and the results were
immediate. He tied for 6th place at the First Leg of the National Triple
Crown in Bedford, IN and moved up to second place at the Second Leg held
in McKean, PA. After faltering slightly in the Third Leg and placing 21st,
he overwhelmed the competition at the National Triple Crown, taking home
the championship with a first place total score of 1155 points.
Smith, an amateur shooter from Wellston, Ohio, then went on to win the
IBO World Championships and The Best of the Best competitions. After finishing
third in the World Championship last year, Smith had dedicated himself
to winning it all this year.
The Best of the Best competition brings the National Triple Crown winners
of every class together for a single elimination tournament, from novice
to professional. Because he was going up against opponents from other divisions
(including the pros) where accessories are allowed, Smith practiced two
weeks prior to the tournament using a borrowed stabilizer, scope, and arrows.
"A lot of people came up to me afterwards and said that I could of won
with any bow. Maybe, but why would I change?" Smith said, adding that his
scores have steadily increased ever since switching to Bowtech. "The Pro-38
is an extremely forgiving bow," Smith said. "It's the best I've ever shot."
