the Dog House

Brian Pullam Mother, look at those deer!

You know those little things that you don't expect to happen, but when they do you know they will be etched in your mind forever? Well I had one of those little experiences the other day. And here is what happened.

My mother needed me to drive her to the store. She has night blindness and she can't drive at night. Well I didn't mind one bit and the store is only a stones throw from my house. It was about 11:00 at night and I like to drive any chance I get so I said I would drive her and we hopped in the car.

On the way there were no cars so I deiced to flip on my high beams and see what the surrounding woods had to behold at 11:00 at night. As we drove further down the road I saw glowing eyes, lots of glowing eyes. I said to my mother " Hey mom look there are deer up the road!"

She looked and saw nothing and told me to keep my eyes on the road and not the woods. As all sons do I rolled my eyes and turned into the store. After she got everything she needed and one of those National Enquirer magazines I deiced instead of heading back home the normal way, I would go out on the highway and turn down the street that leads to my house.

I saw no cars were coming and instead of going the speed limit I slowed down to about 15 miles an hour and flipped on my high beams again as we approached the place where I had seen the deer.

When I did 7 deer froze in there tracks. There were deer there and I just proved it. My mom was so excited, it was like she was a little kid flying in a plane for the first time.

She was pointing and yelling " Look There is a deer!!!" Look Brian Look"

I just smiled and said, "Yes mom I told you."

I turned down he road and pulled in the driveway. My mom was so happy. That was the first time she had ever seen deer that close. And, well, it felt kind of good to know that I was the hero of the day. I gave my mom a touch of childhood. Talk about a memory.

I guess it doesn't take much to make a memory. Just a little drive to the store made a life time memory for me and my mother.

So next time you are thinking about taking your son or daughter, wife or husband in the woods or to the store but think " Na to much trouble" just remember what happened to me and my mother.
