Incredible Finds

The hunting market is inundated each
year with new products that we can’t live without. New gimmicks, scents, camouflage patterns,
bags, scent control devices, bug repellent, boots, gloves, and various other
accessories flood our magazines and minds.
Every hunter I know has their own idea of what works and what doesn’t
and many like myself continually buy new products in hopes of finding that
special combination that will bring Mr. Nasty running up to us on opening
day.
Few things that I
actually purchase materialize into much of anything other than more to carry or
take up space in the garage. How many
climbing stands can I use at one time? How
many scents can I put out at once? How
many different broadheads can I possibly keep sighted in at one time? I recently made a list of a few things that
really changed my hunting. A few key
items I’ve found that really work for me and I’d like to share.

| Robinson's Scent Blocker |
The first is carbon clothing. I
have both Scent-Blocker Plus and Scent-Lok. Before I had these, it was highly
unusual to have whitetail deer stand 15 yards downwind of me without flagging
away in a hurry. Doe would blow at me
the second the wind shifted in their direction.
Yes, they would still come into range and I took many deer without it,
but now playing the wind doesn’t seem to be as large a factor as it once
was. Deer stay in range much longer now
which gives me more time to wait for the right shot. I still get scented out from time to time,
but my chances have increased tremendously by wearing carbon clothing.

The second of what
I refer to as my Miracle Setup is a scent called Buck Magic. I put this product to the test this year and
found it to be a fantastic addition to my setup. I had mixed results early on, but a personal
email from the owner of the company helped get me through some of the early
pains I was having. It is a powerful
scent tray filled with buck and doe urine which is made into a gel form. One tray will take you through three months
of hunting season without going stale. I
will warn you now though that this product has dramatic results attached to it
in two directions. I’ve seen doe and
subordinate bucks run from it, but I’ve also seen them come in and spend
minutes sniffing it and twice now I’ve had doe lay down next to or on top of
it. It has lived up to its claims so far
and I see now why Ted Nugent orders 130+ units a year. It will either drive them away or bring them
in, but no matter which way it goes that day, it is 100% dramatic in what will
happen.

The last product
in my “Miracle Setup” is the Treesuit. This climbing stand is “The Stand that you
Wear” and is invaluable for being where they won’t expect you. Weighing in at only a few pounds, you
actually step into the waist belt and off you go. It will allow you to shoot 360 degrees around
your tree. There are a few ways to use your treesuit. One is as an actual climber when you purchase
the lower climbing portion of the stand.
The platform is just like a regular climber bottom, but smaller. It works well out of the box, but I welded
some teeth on it for better tree grip and so that it wouldn’t tilt as much when
shifting my weight side to side for a shot behind the tree. For trees that aren’t straight enough to
climb or have branches, a bag of strap on tree steps is the answer. Simply strap on your steps, put a couple at
the top for your feet to rest on and secure yourself after climbing to the
top. Personally, I love this option as I
can now climb into a tree that has natural cover to keep me hidden. The third option is to pick your trees ahead
of time and put up screw in steps. You
never have to worry about a lost or stolen stand because you are wearing the
one you use! This stand is all day
comfortable, lets you shoot 360 degrees around the tree, is light, easy to use,
and once you’re used to it, the best climber or fixed stand you will ever use.

Sure there are
other things I use, but these three things have changed the way I hunt,
increased my chances of getting close to Mr. Nasty, and made my hunts that much
more interesting.
