Walking to my stand I could feel myself start to perspire even though it was 20 degrees.  The reason I was moving so fast is that I got up late and wanted to get into Double Bull Blind before there was any hint of light.

Making it to my blind I settled in with about 10 minutes remaining before Mr. Darkness gave way to Mr. Light.

The stand location I was hunting is called the Field Stand. It has a large creek on the east side and a thick timber on the north side and on the west side is a steep hill that helps to conceal the field. The animals really feel safe and secure with this location because of the solitude and how it is tucked away in such a remote area.

I also planted a winter wheat field here that helps to draw all kinds of critters.  This year I have taken two hogs, two turkeys, and a deer from this area.  To say this is a honey hole is putting it mildly.

A twinkle of light and birds chirping put me in the mode to get ready for action.  The wind started to pick up but I was in the confines of my Double Bull that acts as a great windbreak.

An hour and a half passed and I had yet to see a game animal.   I remained put and stayed positive knowing it would be just a matter of time.  North of me at the edge of the thick timber I noticed some movement.  Out of the woods stepped a turkey then another -- until there were about 25 standing in my field.

Eventually the birds made their way to my location.  A Jake was feeding at six yards when I slowly raised my High Country TSS to a shooting position.  I picked my spot and sent the AFC shaft on its way.

No more than I released, the bird was down. Getting out of the blind I went and retrieved my turkey.  I was excited as all get out.  I have been bow hunting for 36 years and I don’t know why it is, but I still get excited every time I harvest an animal. Picking up my bird I returned to camp knowing my family and I would have turkey for the holidays.

I hope all of you reading this had a great holiday and I wish you and yours a happy and healthy new year.  Take care and safe hunting.
