Alpen is a relatively new outdoor optic company but one that I have been hearing a lot about. Established in 1997 they have developed a line of binoculars, spotting scopes, and accessories which offer good value by providing features and benefits normally found only on high end optical products

I stopped by the Alpen booth, looked over their product line and asked questions. The new Teton line of optics is what they are excited about. It has the high end Ranier line optics with the the lighter weight body of the Apex line. If you are in the market for a really nice pair of binos these are worth a look.

Alpen 8x42

This is how Alpen describes the Teton series...

Alpen Optics introduces the new Teton™ binocular series for 2007 to satisfy the demand for a top performance optical instrument in a lightweight yet durable body design that won’t break your bank account. The Teton series is designed using the superior eye lens system of Alpen’s super performance Rainier™ binocular combined with the prism and body system of the popular Apex™ binocular series. The result is incredibly sharp and bright optical performance in a lighter weight, field tough body.

Teton achieves this hybrid performance by featuring BaK4 prisms with Alpen’s exclusive UBX™ multi-coating, SHR™ metallic coating and PXA™ phase correction coating. Each prism is treated with over 60 layers of these high performance coatings to provide incredible light performance through the entire optical system. The result is not only a super bright image, but an image that has full color fidelity and exquisite sharpness in full and low light viewing conditions.

The composite body design is covered by an extremely durable yet comfortable textured rubber material that will provide years of shock resistant viewing enjoyment. Twist-lock eye cups and long eye relief optical design provide full comfort viewing even when wearing eye or sun glasses. Of course, Teton is fully O-ring sealed and nitrogen filled for the security of waterproof, fog free viewing in the harshest of outdoor conditions.

Teton’s value with these incredible features should set a new benchmark for top quality optical performance at an affordable price point.
