During bear hunting, the long, thick coats of black bears can be
deceiving when estimating the general size of the animal. The best
indicators of a large bear are the sizes of its ears and head.
The smaller the ears appear to be, the larger the head is, and usually
the larger the bear. Bears with narrow faces and long noses are not
usually full-grown.
