Eastern Colorado Trophy Mule
Stick & String Outfitters (SSO) is
excited to announce that we have joined forces with one of the best trophy mule
deer/whitetail outfitters in eastern Colorado, Tom Tietz of Natural Hunting
Adventures, Inc. (NHA). SSO has become partners with NHA and will now be in
the outfitting business, in addition to continuing our booking agency. The
reason we pulled the trigger on this deal is because we are very confident in
providing some of the best trophy mule deer and whitetail hunts in the West. We
are very familiar with Tom's operation as we have booked numerous clients with
him over the years with great success. We jumped at the chance to join him.
Tom is a very experienced outfitter, bowhunter, outdoor writer and wildlife
photographer. He has run NHA for over 20 years.

Private Land Leases
We lease several of the best ranches the area has to offer. We
have exclusive outfitting rights to 60,000+ acres of private ranch land which
includes over 25 miles of creek bottom inhabited by both muleys and whitetails.
Our leases are hand-picked and provide the habitat to produce trophy class
bucks. These ranches are spread over four game management units and offer a
diverse selection of habitats for our clients. The leases are managed for both
trophy class animals and a quality hunting experience.
Many hunters are beginning to realize that eastern Colorado
holds some of the largest whitetail and mule deer bucks in the country. This is
because genetics are excellent, the vast majority of the land is private, rifle
licenses are very limited, the winters are mild, and there are an abundance of
crops for growing huge racks.

Without exaggerating, eastern Colorado rivals any place in
North America for trophy mule deer and whitetails. Trophy quality is just
unbelievable! Mature muley bucks generally range from an incredible 160 to 190
gross, with some of our clients fortunate enough to take bucks grossing over
200. Mature whitetails generally range from 140-170, again with the occasional
buck grossing over 200. We believe our whitetail hunting would rival hunting
anywhere in North America, including Canada.

I have personally bowhunted eastern Colorado for whitetails and muleys for
over 20 years and have been fortunate enough to harvest 7 Pope & Young
muleys and whitetails there.

To keep costs to our clients at a minimum, we offer self
guided archery hunts. Hunting for both the mule deer and whitetails is
largely from treestands along the river bottoms. Although these hunts are self
guided, it really is not a detriment to your success because many treestands are
already placed in the best spots or you can add your own treestands where you
like. We will also meet you at the ranch before your hunt and show you the
treestand locations and best places to hunt. We can do fully guided hunts if
that is what you want but to be honest we will generally just take you to your
treestand and you will be on your own anyway. So by going self guided, you save
money and still have the same opportunity for harvesting a buck.

Obviously treestand hunting is very effective for whitetail
hunting but can also be incredibly effective for hunting big muley bucks during
the rut. I shot this 205 inch nontypical muley from a treestand in eastern CO a
few years ago the day after Thanksgiving Day.
Our archery season is very generous and runs from Oct. 1
through Dec. 31 although most of the hunts are conducted during the peak of the
rut in November. Colorado is nice in the fact that there are no rifle seasons
in November during the rut so the entire month is dedicated to archery hunting.
Some ranches are better for mule deer and some better for
whitetails. Other ranches have good numbers of each. And your license is
generally valid for either species which is a bonus (i.e., unless you apply for
a whitetail-only license). We only allow a very limited number of hunters at a
time on each ranch.
The main whitetail hunting area is on the famed Arkansas
River is southeast CO where we lease several miles of prime river
bottom. Most of the muley hunting (and whitetails) is in eastern CO where we
lease tens of thousands of acres and several miles of creek bottoms.

We also offer a very limited number of rifle hunts during the
early season (Oct. 23-Nov. 2) and the late season (Dec. 1-6). Because the rifle
hunts occur in October and December, they do not interfere with our archery
hunting. Also, the number of hunters taken is so small (2 hunters per ranch per
season), there is negligible impact from rifle hunting. Rifle success rates are
nearly 100% and book up early.
Archery licenses are relatively easy to draw, usually only
requiring 0-1 preference points. Also, if you don't draw we can provide you
with a landowner permit for no additional charge.
Rifle licenses require anywhere from 0-3 preference points but
again we can generally provide you with a landowner permit for no additional
charge if you don't draw.
The application deadline is April 6 so is approaching fast and
we will help you with the application process.
