ARCHERY HALL OF FAME HOLDS 1ST INDUCTION AT WONDERS OF WILDLIFE COMPLEX

The Archery Hall of Fame & Museum, Inc. held its 1st Induction Ceremony in what will be their permanent home at the Wonders of Wildlife complex in Springfield, Missouri on September 22, 2006.  Inductions were held covering the years 2004, 2005 and 2006.

The Hall honored Jim Dougherty with a special tribute for his career achievements and his support of all elements of archery and bowhunting.

Attending the tribute to Jim Dougherty were his sons, Darrall and Hoyt.  They delivered greetings from Jim, who was unable to attend.  Ann Clark, M.R. James, Dick Lattimer, and a letter from Jim Easton provided anecdotes regarding the man, his contributions and his influence on everything that has been archery and bowhunting over the past 50 years.

Sherwood Schoch, a member of the Hall's Board of Directors, was the presenter for the 2004 inductee, the late Rollin A. Bohning of Michigan.  His induction plaque was accepted by his daughter, Martha Johnson, on the 60th anniversary of Bohning Company, LTD.

Bohning was recognized for revolutionizing the development of adhesives and paints. This included fletching adhesive, bowstring wax and a lacquer that relies on adhesion through electro-chemical bond to work with aluminum shafts.  He was inducted as a contributor to the sport.

Dr. Charles E. "Bert" Grayson of Clatskanie, Oregon was presented for induction for calender year 2005 by Ann Hoyt and Ann Clark. Grayson was recognized for the contribution of his vast collection of ancient and modern archery equipment and artifacts.  He has made his collection available for study by students and the general public. Dr. Grayson was also inducted as a contributor to the sport.

Grayson traveled to his induction with a stop at the National Flight Championships, where he participated and took 1st place in the 35LB Longbow Class.  Quite a feat for a gentleman in his 90's! As a competitive flight shooter, he has held many N.A.A. (National Archery Association) flight awards.

Len Cardinale of Waretown, New Jersey was presented by Hall President, Dave Staples, as a member of the class of 2005.  He was recognized for his presentation and interpretation of "the shot", revolutionizing how coaches presented the concept of shooting an arrow. Cardinale was inducted as a contributor to and an influence on the sport. Cardinale's administrative accomplishments and coaching, which include his body of writing on coaching and instructional videos, had a tremendous influence on thousands of archers internationally.

Cardinale is a senior member of the Pope & Young Club, with 21 record class trophies in the book. He has served as a board member of the I.B.E.F. (International Bowhunters Education Foundation), and was one of the founding members of the A.L.O.A. (Archery Lane Operators Association).

Ed Rohde of Muscatine, Iowa became the 58th member of the Hall, as the 2006 inductee. Rohde's plaque was presented by Arlyne Rhode, publisher of the U.S. & International Archer magazine. Rohde was inducted as a competitor.

In 1982, Rohde became the 1st archer in P.A.A., (Professional Archers Association) history to win every major sanctioned tournament held in one year. For over 20 years, he retained a top 20 ranking in professional, field, and target events.  He was a charter member of the P.A.A., and was the #1 male competitor, five years in a row.  He shot the 1st perfect animal round in N.F.A.A. (National Field Archery Association) history and won the N.A.A. National Target Championship. In his home state of Iowa, he was named Iowa Sportsman of the Year.
