The UPS & Downs of Bear Hunting

Bear hunting for me is usually reserved for springtime.  Although we have a provincial fall season, it seems I’m always too busy hoping for mature ungulates to cross my path on any god-given fall day.  Not to mention the habitat I hunt during the fall is not conducive to bears.  Some folks will carry a “just in case” bear tag if there’s a reasonable chance to fill it in the midst of a moose or elk hunt.  I might as well have a unicorn tag in my pocket for all the bear I’d expect to see from my deer stand.  But with early fall a mere calendar page away, many of you have your sight set on a heart-pounding stalk or determined vigil for a mighty black bear.

Nothing pumps up the anxiety more this time of year than a good bowhunting article, a digital copy of Monster Bucks XXXXX or an inspiring on-line hunt at Bowhunting.Net. My condolences to the outfitters, hunters, sponsors and viewers recently rooked out of an awesome on-line Ontario black bear hunt.  Tough pill to swallow, for sure, but one that will make us stronger and wiser in the long run.  To curb the desensitization at Bowhunting.net, and for all the fall bear hunters in the audience, here’s a little dose of “up and down” pre-season adrenaline to turn this “downer” rightside “up”!

(Don’t worry…the puns will all make sense when you have a look at this very cool footage on BowKaddy!)
