Protect Yourself From Pests in the Outdoors

PROTECT YOURSELF OUTDOORS WITH SIMPLE PEST PREVENTION TIPS

For outdoor enthusiasts, nothing compares to sunrise on the water, a crisp fall day for hunting or a night spent under the stars.  And nothing ruins that pleasure faster than the whine, bites and annoyance of outdoor pests such as mosquitoes, ticks and biting flies.

Today, outdoor enthusiasts can create their own bite-free zone in the wild.   In addition to providing an insect-resistant area that improves the enjoyment of the time spent outside, a bite-free zone can protect against dangerous insect bites that can transmit West Nile virus and other illnesses.

The pest prevention experts at Repel Insect Repellent have spent countless hours outdoors battling insects to develop new products and practices that provide excellent protection for any type of activity.  Their recommendations include:

Protect Yourself:
  •         Use an EPA-registered personal insect repellent with DEET for the highest level of protection.  Repel offers a wide range of registered repellents to protect during any outdoor activity…from enjoying a picnic to a safari.
  •         Wear long clothing and treat it with Permanone® Clothing & Gear Insect Repellent from Repel.  Permanone is specially formulated to treat clothing, gear and tents with a mosquito and tick repellent.
  •         Try to avoid exposure during peak mosquito biting times, typically dusk and dawn.
  •         In sunny environments, use a combination product that has sunscreen and repellent.  Try Repel Sun and Bug Stuff® formula…a long lasting repellent with sunscreen.
Set up a Bug-Free Campsite:
  •        Before you pitch your tent or unload your gear, clear the area of bugs with Repel Camp Fogger.  Just spray throughout the immediate area to create a protective perimeter
  •         Try to avoid activities near standing or stagnant water.  These areas are breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other insects
  •         For extra protection around the campsite, use new Repel Insect Repellent Stakes.  These long-lasting stakes repel mosquitoes without an open flame.
  •         Create an extra barrier on your tent, sleeping bag and outwear with Repel Weather Shield™ that keeps out moisture and deters insects all season long
  • Set the mood and keep mosquitoes away from your campsite with Repel Citronella Candles.
Care for Bites Carefully:
  •         If the mosquitoes are able to penetrate your perimeter and bite you, clean the area with soap and water to remove contaminated particles left behind by some insects (such as mosquitoes). Refrain from scratching because this may cause the skin to break and an infection to form.
  •         You may treat itching at the site of the bite with an over-the-counter antihistamine such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in cream or pill form. Calamine lotion also helps relieve the itching.
  •         If you don’t have any medical cream, several household items can help.  Dab the site of the bite with diluted lime juice to neutralize the infected area.  You can also place a cut raw onion on the site or coat the bite with a paste (not gel) toothpaste
  •         Over the next several days, watch for signs of infection (such as increasing redness, swelling, or pain).
Repel is available at national retailers, sporting goods stores and specialty retailers.  For more information on Repel, visit www.Repel.com.
