Join us as Fred Lutger, David Mills and Robert Hoague go for the Grand Slam this Spring. Our plan is to begin in Florida in mid March and move on to Nebraska, Texas, Missouri, Illinois, Ohio and Tennessee. Look for the daily updates, lots of on the spot pictures, and plenty of video for BowTube.com as the hunt progresses.

Wade Nolan Writers Camp & Turkey Hunt - Day 2
By Robert Hoague
Apr 10, 2008 - 10:23:25 AM

At dawn this morning the wind was blowing as hard as it could be without being a tornado. Plus it was raining big time. So nobody could hunt.

The storm cleared mid morning, in time for the business meetings. These are the attendees.

Wade Nolan, Justin Lowry, Mike Jordan, Mike Strandlund and Fred Lutger.

AFTERNOON HUNT

Justin Lowry's Bowhunt
On the way to his hunting area Wade Nolan gave first time turkey hunter Justin Lowry the 15 minute lesson on using a slate call. Billy Don dropped Justin him off at a ground blind. Fifteen minutes later Justin made 3 calls with  the slate and waited. On the left side of the blind Justin saw a hen.

He got on his hands and knees to see if he could draw his bow. At that point he saw a gobbler in full strut to the right of the blind. The hen began walking away to the left.

The gobbler changed directions and started towards the hen. Justin waited until the gobbler was directly in front of the blind. The gobbler dropped strut and stopped. Justin drew and shot.

The gobbler fell over sidewise and was done.

This was Justin's first attempt at wild turkey hunting. He is the Regional Sales Manager for Grim Reaper Broadheads and lives in Mona, Utah. He has been a bowhunter for 16 years and was shooting Grim Reaper Broadheads since 2000 and became a Pro Staff member in 2002. Justin started working for Grim Reaper the summer of 2007.

Justin says, "I love the business. Every bowhunter dreams about being in the archery industry. In the short time I've worked in this industry I have met and learned a lot from many interesting people."
