Judy Usunier of Big Grass Outfitters nominated Linda K. Burch

I would like to introduce myself, I am Judy Usunier of Big Grass Outfitters, www.biggrassoutfitters.com Manitoba Canada. My husband and I operate and outfitting service for whitetail, bear and Waterfowl in Manitoba.

This past summer I had the opportunity of talking to Linda Burch of Wild Tech on phone and then the privilege of meeting her in person on Aug 31, when she came to our fall bear camp.

I was referred to Linda by Tammy Koening of tammykoenig.com adventureboundoutdoors.com in hopes with the assistance to Manitoba Tourism we would set up a fall bear hunt for the 2 ladies. After many calls we put it all together.

The girls arrived and prepare for the hunt. Both girls shooting Mathews bows go to range Monday morning and bulls eye they were on the target. Very impressive. 2 pm comes and we transport them to the stand and with limited gear they are placed in the stand. We as outfitters are often concerned with the amount of gear some hunters carry to stand, thus more scent in the woods chances of bear winding a new scent.

Linda was a great sport who after 3 nites in one stand and not seeing anything but squirrels, hawks, and ravens still stated if she felt we knew what we are doing and it was up to us if she moved. Thursday nite a new stand and another no see and spirits are low but she has a positive attitude, but needless to say a little stiff and sore. Fri the weather is changing and she has her hopes up we moved her again and 8:.45pm her colored bear shows, with a great shot and she has a trophy.

Linda showed positive attitude even when others in camp we shooting and seeing bear. And what a great shot. I would like to nominate her for the Lady Archer of the month. I expect she will have a article for womenhunters soon, which will compliment this acknowledgement if she is chosen.

Thank you for your time.

Regards;
Judy Usunier

Larry Wyrick nominated Sherry Forman
I would like to nominate Sherry Forman. I met and shot with Sherry in the Texas State IBO championship in July. This lady is a class act to say the least. She is the ultimate sportsperson, promoting archery all the way. I was totaly impressed by her with regards to her shooting ability, knowledge of archery and professionalism. By the way, she beat me and never said a word; mark of a true professional. I finished fourth in MBR and she finished first in Womens Pro.
Regards,
Larry Wyrick

Johnny Kennedy nominated Joni Hays
What can I say about Joni, no greater lady have I met that shares her life so much with others and never ask for anything in return but your friendship. A super archer, great friend, and great hunting partner. Having a True friend like her has made my life richer.

Johnny Kennedy nominated Carolyn Duncan
Carolyn and her Husband Loren have become really great friends and you couldn't find better people to spend time with. Carolyn always has a smile on her face for everyone, always has time to help you in anyway she can. She always takes time to spend helping the kids at A.S.A. events and local events to help them in archery. She has a great outlook on life and shares that with everyone she meets. Thank you Carolyn for being my friend and such a special person.

Why did I nominate Michele, one is to her commitment to the sport. She makes sure a quality product gets into the hands of archers every where. Lets face it the pressure to conform to the majority of other companies to make retractable heads must be incredible. But Muzzy has not wavered on this issue.  Michele is a leader not a follower.  Her dedication and devotion to the sport has not been one or two years either.  Look at the history of the company and endless hours of making a company work. They were ahead of their time with trocar tips. A good company is just that. But to be one of the leaders in any industry it takes courage, leadership and people that support you. A great leader is only as good as the people around you. A great leader also brings out the best in people around you and installing in them pride. Why did I choose her? I think the answer is obvious. Her and her brother are models of the industry. How many archery related companies are run by females? While their are a lot of great female archers out there, there are few that have achieved the admiration and deserve recognition for their leadership in the industry. I debated about Michele, you or Kathy Etling. It was a difficult decision. but i had to make one. Kathy deserves recognition and you do too.  Michelle one my vote by 1/100 of 1%. Michelle has to be one of the top dogs in the business side of the industry fighting with Bruce Barrie and a host of others.  But in the trenches of bowhunting and competivnessI would want her on my side.  Kathy and you on the other.  Thats why.        Art

The lady i would like to submit is: Karen Vought
She is the secretary/treasurer of the PCBA - PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED BOWHUNTERS OF AMERICA. She not only bowhunts but keeps that organization going, in addition to a ful time job, and being a mother and grandmother. She works tirelessly to get the quarterly news reports out.
She also spends many hours talking to people and compaines who want to become members and corporate sponsors of the PCBA. She has been bear hunting, whitetail deer, turkeys, antelope, and probably a whole lot more i dont know of. How she keeps up with all this, much less has time to bowhunt i dont know.   As far as I know karen is not physically challenged, her husband marvin is in a wheelchair.  We have hunters who range from folks with 1 arm or leg to blind archers.
karen is the backbone of this organization, and a model for its members and any person in bowhunting in general. She gives her all.  A couple of years ago she was awarded the SOARING EAGLE AWARD, the PCBA's highest award. And I still think it should be renamed to the Karen Vought award.  Is pronounced vo like bo like shoot a bow.

You can go to this link and find out some of the things she has been involved in. even though her name is not mentioned much, everything seems to go through her.

If there is a problem, lets call karen. if there is a question you need the answer to, lets call karen
if you need to know the schedule of events lets call Karen. there should be more people like her in the bowhunting world.  I would not only like to nominate her for featured bowhunter, but for bowhunter of the year.   http://www.pcba-inc.org

Mike Fitzgerald - Secretary and Membership Committee Chair - Lone Star Bowhunters Association nominates Kami
As to my nomination:  Kami Cochran from Spring, Texas.  Kami is a very dedicated hunter and 3-D enthusiast, wife, mother and Editor of our state archery org's  Lone Star Bowhunters Association magazine.  She has volunteered countless hours working trade shows and hunting expositions educating people about archery and helping to staff the kids archery range we set up at all the shows.

I feel she exemplifies the type of role model for all archers and bowhunters and worthy of this nomination.

Grant nominates Ann
I am nominating Ann for the featured bowhunter of the month.  Ann recently recorded her very first deer with a bow, a whitetail doe.  She as been waiting, practicing and working for this for three years.   She did all her homework, knew the patterns of this deer, worked hard, and outsmarted her.  Her favorite quote "Every day spent outdoors is the best day of my life"

Rhonda nominates Lisa Price
This is the reason why I think Lisa should be the featured lady Bowhunter. I met Lisa a year ago at the Does and Bows hunt. This fiery Red Head made the Does and Bows hunt so much fun with her great sense of humor. Lisa is one of those humble hunters, that has accomplished a lot in her life, but is too modest to talk about it. She is an unselfish outdoor writer, that is willing to share all hunting facts with the next. Her humor comes out in every line and is willing to poke fun at herself making the reader feel at ease when reading her articles. I am so glad that I met Lisa at the Does and Bows hunt, I feel my life has been enhanced with meeting such a special person. I too believe to live life with humor each and everyday, and with Lisa it is simple.

To sum it up, Lisa is a good hearted woman. She works hard to get the message out that us Women should be respected in the field also. She puts in countless and thankless hours in promoting women in the outdoors. I think she should be thanked a special way for this. That's the reason why I nominated her.

Gene nominates Lisa
Now, about  Lisa... She sure is a prize, and a very impressive young woman!  I first made her acquaintance about 9 months ago on the Hunting Information System Bowhunting forums <www.huntinfo.com>, where she was a very enthusiastic, though "novice" participant.  Her enthusiasm for bowhunting and archery were very "infectious" to a lot of the other members who were getting a bit stale from all the same old questions, Lisa re awoken a lot of the joy of archery in many of us.  Her ability to quickly learn was obvious, and very soon, there she was helping others.  She was always one of the first members to jump in and help new archer, and is doing a great job in promoting the sport, and also in attracting other women to consider learning archery and trying bowhunting.
It hard to see how she finds time to help new folks on the HIS forums.   She has a successful web page designing business, spends time raising black labradors, and is an accomplished  horse woman.

I have found her enthusiasm for the sport to be very contributory to our sport and her love for it and the outdoors is obvious, and refreshing.  It is such a good feeling for an "old fart" like me (55) to see "young blood" coming into many of our life's' greatest passion, bowhunting.
Recently she has begun to get interested in Traditional archery, and making arrows, and has inspired many folks (including myself!), into building their own arrows, by showing the beautifully dipped, crested, and "spliced feather" arrows that she has so easily mastered making!!

I guess that is the biggest reason I am nominating her!  She even inspires an "old timer" like me to try new things, and her view on life is honest and refreshing.  There is no "baloney" about her.  She tells it like it is, and what you see is what you get.  I think we in the archery community are getting A LOT!
I would be thrilled (along with the rest of the H.I.S. forum) to see her nominated as as a monthly featured bowhunter.  She is a "jewel"!!

Christy nominates Rhonda
Rhonda is an active member in the women's hunt club on yahoo. Because of her expertise in archery and hunting, she has helped many of the members, with her advise and opinions on many subjects. She is a great proponent of women's shooting sports, and is a certified instructor. She is also a pioneer as a woman archer. She has taken two trips to RSA (South Africa) hunting a variety of animals. Her last trip was her biggest challenge, her objective was a cape buffalo or other wise called Black Death. She had to train for many months to work up to pull 70lbs on her bow, just to be able to harvest an animal of this size. Even with her bought with lyme disease,
she has accomplished the task. She will be the first women to ever harvest one with a bow. She didn't harvest one this trip, but is on her way back this summer to try again! She has been such and inspiration to many of us women hunters! She has a great sense of humor and a zest for life that is very contagious.
