Thomas A. Garner: Born in the Ozark Mountains of North Arkansas, Tommy developed a great love and respect for the outdoors at an early age. Hunting and fishing were more than a way to pass the time with him, they were a driving force that his life began to revolve around. This passionate love for the outdoors eventually led him to fulfill his life-long dream of becoming an outdoor writer, wildlife photographer and television host.

Mr. Garner has written magazine articles for "North American Whitetail", "Arkansas Sportsman", "Mississippi Game and Fish", "Louisiana Sportsman", "Arkansas Hunting and Fishing Magazine", Arkansas Game and Fish Commission's award winning "Arkansas Wildlife Magazine" along with weekly outdoor articles for the Jonesboro Sun, Searcy Daily Citizen and the Russellville Courier. He is a former member of the Southeast Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA).

Drawing upon his knowledge gained through a lifetime of in-depth research on the whitetail deer as well as other species of wildlife and fish and the information gleaned by interviewing some of the most successful hunters and researchers in the world, the articles written by Tommy Garner are entertaining and informative, appealing to the novice as well as the veteran sportsman. Many non hunters and non fishermen have read many of the articles written by Mr. Garner, gaining a better insight of the importance of conserving our natural world.

This wealth of knowledge has been carried over into the outdoor television program "TransWorld Sportsman" which is hosted by Tommy. He has guests on the program occasionally which include but are not limited to Grand National Turkey Calling Champion Dick Kirby of Quaker Boy World Champion Game Calls, Ernie Callandrelli, also of Quaker Boy, America's Deer Hunter Roger Raglin of BKS Productions, Alex Rutledge of Hunters Specialties and Country Singer/songwriter David Lynn Jones. He is also the Executive Producer for Steppenwolf Productions in Hardy, Arkansas where he has produced a number of television programs and commercials.

Mr. Garner hosts the "Regional Hunting and Fishing Report" on KKountry 95 FM, a 100,000 watt FM radio station in Thayer, Mo which sends a signal throughout a 40,000 square mile area (FCC designated trade area is approximately 10,000 square miles). The Regional Hunting and Fishing Report recently aired it's 245th episode. A televised version of the "Regional Hunting and Fishing Report" is being scheduled to air during the sports section of the news on KAIT TV 8 in Jonesboro, Ar. beginning sometime in 2002. Each Monday Tommy hosts the "Live Regional Hunting and Fishing Update" a one hour live radio program that keeps listeners abreast of current hunting and fishing conditions, events which effect the outdoor world and also has guests like Gordon Whittington, Editor of "North American Whitetail Magazine", Hunter's Specialties Senior Video Editor Ken Kemper and Pro Staffers Stan Potts and Alex Rutledge, Bass Pro Shops "Outdoor World" television co-host Jerry Martin, "First Lady of Hunting" Brenda Valentine who is also co-host of Bass Pro Shops "Outdoor World", Bass Pro Shop's Outdoor Communications Coordinator Katie Mitchell, Real Tree Outdoors' Michael Waddell, Buckmaster's American Deer Foundation Director Phil Reddock and many others.

Tommy has also appeared in a number of television commercials. He received media training from the Powers International/California Studios Agency in Glendale, Ca., completing and receiving certification is TV1, TV2 and Agency Preparation. Before venturing into the outdoor media arena, he worked in the family business, running a Western Auto store where he bought, sold and traded firearms and archery equipment (including repairing and tuning compound bows).

Though Tommy has successfully hunted elk, mule deer, turkey, pronghorn antelope and other game species in a number of states, his passion is whitetail deer. Through the thousands of hours spent studying and hunting the whitetail, he has gained a wealth of knowledge concerning feeding, bedding and rutting behavior and how the wind, terrain, moon phase, temperature, hunter pressure and other factors affect deer movement. Also, most of the factors which affect whitetails have an effect on other antlered animals. His knowledge of animal behavior and social structure has been reinforced by the fact that he raises whitetail deer at his home in north Arkansas. Tommy has done seminars for different groups from time to time and can effectively communicate his knowledge to his listening audience. A particularly interesting note is that he has had the opportunity to speak to a Ladies Lions group where he was able to explain to his audience of non hunting females that one of the benefits of wildlife research was an ongoing quest for a cure for cancer through studying antler growth of whitetail bucks during the velvet stage. One of Tommy's strong points is being able to help even veteran hunters better understand how to find and pattern deer in an unfamiliar area though the use of topo maps and "vertical scouting". Using these tactics, Tommy has bagged a number of mature whitetail bucks.

Though not an official scorer for any organization, Mr. Garner has scored thousands of whitetail racks over the years at a number of deer shows and exhibits and has personally unearthed record class racks which were unknown before hand. He has also accurately predicted in print where and when a possible record book buck would be taken in a state not known for producing record class bucks at the time. The most important things in a long list of priorities are God first and family a close 2nd. Tommy and wife Wanda spend all of the time possible hunting and fishing with their family.

Mr. Garner is available for bookings as a seminar speaker for your group or organization. You may contact Tommy by e-mail at tomgarner@hotmail.com or call him at 870-856-2387.
