Shoot? Pass? or Wait? #7
You've got one doe tag to fill and you wait patiently in your treestand, 16 feet above the ground, for an opportunity. There was a heavy morning dew and the damp woods is unusually quiet. You don't hear a sound but when you look to your far left you see two does 12 yards away.

SHOOT? PASS? or WAIT?
  • Do you Shoot the doe on the Right? This doe is giving you the perfect broadside shooting opportunity. But this is not as easy a situation as it first appears. There is a 3rd deer ! A yearling is right behind this doe.
  • Pass? You have to pass. Don't take the chance of wounding the yearling behind this doe.
  • Wait? Yes, wait. If you want this doe you may have an opportunity if the yearling moves away.
  • Do you Shoot the doe on the Left? You have an excellent quartering shot opportunity here. Your only problem is this doe is looking in your general direction. However, it's line of vision is at ground level and you are well above that. Draw slowly so you don't attract the attention of the doe, unless you are careless it won't notice you draw. (In the unlikely event that it looks at you, don't shoot.) Aiming: look at the left front leg (the white leg). Use the left edge as your point of reference and move straight up until you are half way up the body. Double lunger. You'll be eating venison tonight.
  • Pass? Only if you prefer to take the doe on the right.
  • Wait? If you are not confident you can draw your bow without attracting the does attention, wait until it looks some where else.
