is the quick version of the layout.
I have a small food plot. The North and East sides are solid woods, but the East has a long gully. The South side is a slope that is more open and goes up to a ranch road (which has very low traffic). The West is corrals and some old ranch buildings -- the only one off which is ever used is my house. From looking at the trails all around the area my first guess was that the deer were using the slope to get to the gully. Plus they come in from that side more than the other. So I put a TrailTimer Game Camera on the slope to watch 3 parallel trails. And it told me what I wanted to know. The first 3 pictures below show the setup of the TrailTimer. One picture is me checking on things. I took 4 rolls of film on the slope in 5 days. The 10 pictures below are representative of the 95 deer pictures taken. So glance through the pictures and give it a little thought and let's see if we think alike about this. In particular, these pictures tell us when the slope is being used. Which deer are using it. How many of the 3 parallel trails are being used. And they tell us if the Big Boy bucks are traveling the slope or not. When you're ready Click On This Link and see if you come to the same conclusion I did. |
