July 2 - The "In
Your Face Buck"
Daybreak
this morning: a buck came up and took a special interest in my CamTrakker
game camera. The camera caught him up close.
Soon the sun was up better
and the buck came back over to have a second look.
And you and I were looking
back at him !!!
Look at the moisture on
the buck's nose ... and his tongue ... and eyes. How cool is that! This
camera takes a big 6-megapixel digital picture. It's the CamTrakker Digital
6.0 model and it is totally up to the task at hand. I have it set to take
a picture every 20 seconds and from yesterday at 4:00pm until today at
9:00am it took 187 pictures! And while that is definitely a picture overload
situation, it is a key to getting good pictures.
This camera is sure making
scouting fun. Just think, it is only July 2nd, the buck's have week's of
antler growing to do, fawns should show up soon, the does will get protective
of their groups. And if we're lucky some Big Boys will show up.

Scouting begins right after
the season ends. By March most of the bucks have shed their antlers. Then
in May their velvet antlers make their first appearance. And from June
thru August their headwear is growing. In September the velvet dries up
and goes away. And it's all here in pictures and scouting logs, from the
day the Freak buck lost his weird antlers, to the first fawn sighting and
the sightings of the Double Kicker buck. To

there isn't water. And continued until the day before the season began.
