PlotSpike
Forage Oats are now available for purchase. PlotSpike Forage Oats are a
new variety of oats selected specifically for their ability to produce
top quality forage. Dr. Steve Harrison of Louisiana State University developed
the variety and it was released to Ragan & Massey, Inc. for production
in 2002.
Mike Massey, Vice President of Ragan & Massey, Inc., said recently,
"We are glad to offer this excellent forage variety in our PlotSpike line
of wildlife food plot products. All reports are that our seed fields look
great and yields continue to be impressive. Cleaning and bagging of the
seed was completed the first of July."
PlotSpike forage oat yields were in excess of 5000 pounds of nutritious
dry matter per acre in development trials.
PlotSpike forage oats can be planted earlier than other small grains
or ryegrass -- providing tender forage during early archery and black powder
seasons. Recommended planting rate is 100 lbs. per acre. Forage oats respond
very well to fertilizer and should receive up to 150 lbs of actual nitrogen
during the fall for maximum forage yields.
PlotSpike forage oats are more cold tolerant than most fall planted
oats and can be expected to survive the winter in the Southern United States.
PlotSpike Seeds for Wildlife offer several blends of wildlife forage
mixes and wildlife nutritional supplements. More information on PlotSpike
Forage Oats can be found at the company's website www.plotspike.com.
PlotSpike products are available at feed stores and sporting good stores
throughout the country. |
