Jay Liechty
and I are field testing the new
RAZORCUT
broadhead that Jay's company Grim
Reaper Broadheads introduced at this year's ATA Archery Trade Show
in January.
This bowhunt was at Billy
Don's Wild Horse Prairie Ranch between Burnet and Lampassas, Texas. |
Billy Don arrived and we
hunted two more days. Jay saw lots of hogs including 7 monsters that "looked
like young buffalos". He had a good time and learned how smart the
really big hogs are.
Jay shot the hogs with 1
3/4 inch cut Grim Reaper RAZORTIP 100 grain broadheads, shot out of a Mathew's
Black Max 2, by a Scott Caliper release. His arrows were Gold Tip Upltra
Lights. The Razortip 100 proved itself to be a tough and lethal on wild
hogs.
"The ranch is a very large
area, 10,000 acre, and has a lot of animals. On one the the trips back
to the blind we saw over 100 hogs. Billy Don strives very hard to provide
a good hunt for his hunters. They have the biggest hogs I've ever seen.
I really enjoyed the big fire place."
Billy Don and I discussed
our plans for the 3rd Annual Bowhunting.net Bowhunt in October at his ranch
(for info Click Here).
I wanted to take pictures of wild turkeys and since the ranch is loaded
with them I got the chance, big time.
I set up a Double Bull blind
on a hillside that turkeys use to go to their roost. Here is the blind,
tucked away in the shadows of the trees.
I don't know if it
is always this way but almost every wild turkey I saw was a gobbler.
I put together a photo gallery
of the wild turkeys that passed by. The turkeys going to the left are headed
in the direction of a nearby spring fed river. The ones going right are
coming from the roost area and on their way to do turkey stuff. To
The Gobblers.
