Jay Liechty and I
are field testing the new
RAZORCUT
broadhead that Jay's company Grim
Reaper Broadheads introduced at this year's ATA Archery Trade Show
in January.
This bowhunt was at Billy
Don's Wild Horse Prairie Ranch between Burnet and Lampassas, Texas. |
Sunday morning Jay went to
church in Burnett, Texas.
Late afternoon we took a
drive. When we were riding through a heavily wooded area Russell stopped
the truck and told Jay that around the corner there was a mud hole that
hogs like to use up ahead 200 yards.
Russell turned off the engine
and Jay walked 50 yards and saw two hogs laying in the mud hole! Jay made
a sneak along the edge of the trees and when he was 50 yards from the hogs
he crawled on his hands and knees through some cedars and cactus. One of
the hogs left the mud hole and trotted Jay's way. Quickly Jay sat up, drew
and shot ... and missed.
Russell showed Jay where
a stand was in this area and we moved on. As we topped a hill we saw a
group of gobblers and I took a few pics of them.

Time was getting away from
us so at 5:45 Russell dropped Jay off at a stand named B&B. Two black
hogs came out and a white hog with spots on it. Jay had his range finder
with him and put it on the hogs. It read 22 yards.
Suddenly a white hog with
black spots appeared. Jay wanted to shoot it. But the white hog was in
the trees and kept moving around. Finally it stepped out of the trees into
the opening ahead of Jay.
Immediately Jay drew back.
He moved the dot of his green fiber optic pin up the front leg to the middle
of the body and then back a few inches. The arrow zipped through the hog
and dropped it in its tracks.
Once again the 1 3/4"
Razortip broadhead does the job for the Grim Reaper Broadheads owner, Jay
Lietchy.
