| DAY 8
(I had very good interviews
with the two bowhunters Tom Alord and Trevor Hale, as well as the details
of their hunts. But I accidentally saved over the file while I was saving
another file. I appologize to you and to them for my goof up. Although
it is not in their own words here is the low down on two very cool young
bowhunters. One vet, and one newbee.)
On Thursday bowhunters Tom
Alord and Trevor Hale drove to the hunt up from San Marcas, Texas.
Tom is 25 and is a college
student. His dad has been an avid bowhunter for many years. He took Tom
on his first hunt at age 3 and Tom tagged his first deer with the bow when
he was eleven. Tom wants to work in the hunting industry and is currently
making contats to that end.
On his hunts here he saw
plenty of deer, wild hogs and wild turkeys. And Audad came in range and
Tom tetered between shooting and not shooting. Exotics cost extra and an
Audad is one of the higjher priced ones and Tom decided to save the money.
The best bucks Tom saw were
an 8 and 10 points but he couldn't manage a shot at either. But when a
doe came within range on the last morning of his hunt Tom sent an arrow
through its vitals and quickly recovered it.
Trevor Hale married Tom's
sister and that was his first exposure to a "bowhunting family." He had
hunted before with firearms and when he showed interest in bowhunting Tom's
father loaned Trevor a bow and it turned out to be a perfect fit.
Trevor took to archery shooting
right away and shot very accurately from the get go. This morning he put
his tag on his first deer ever.
Trevor is 22 and is really
fired up about bowhunting.
Trevor and Tom returned
home after the morning hunt. Chef Klaus and Diamond Dave flew home. The
remaining bowhunters are the Duck, Roy Keefer and myself. And there is
more left to be told about this hunt.
