Colby Ward
Today Colby saw two 8-points,
a 9-pt and several hogs and two groups of wild turkeys. On the morning
hunt a big 10 point appeared on the opposite tree line. Wild turkeys were
by Colby's stand and the buck was jittery about them. It walked into the
turkeys and Colby range findered him at 30 yards. He thought the buck would
come closer. But it turned and left.
John Askew - Two-fer Morning Hunt
A wild hog came in early
and when it put its head behind a tree John drew and double lunged it --
it ran 60 yards. An hour later 8 hogs came up from behind. John picked
out the largest one and shot it. All the hogs scattered and ran. Wild turkeys
came into the area and picked up motion and left. The hogs were an easy
find.
Dave Zeck hunted
in a treestand in the morning and saw 3 red stags, an 8-pt, doe, spike
and 3 aoudads and a fallow deer. IN the afternoon he saw wild hogs, several
deer and an lone Aoudad came up. Dave drew when it was 20 yards but had
to hold for a long time. His shot missed. Seven more aoudad circled the
area. Then he saw more deer and 3 red stags.
Jeff Gossett
Back at the Airstrip in
the Matrix. Two does came out early. Jeff shot through the mesh at one
and missed. At 8:00 he heard a loud blowing sound behind him. A large water
buffalo cow walked to the blind and stopped when her nose touched the mesh
-- two feet apart.
Jeff froze. The water buffalo
finally backed up but she kept watching the blind. Five more came up and
finally she walked away and the others followed.
On the afternoon he hunted
#35 in a ladder stand. After an hour a spike and an 8-pt came out. They
got spooky and left. Only to return in a short while. But they quickly
turned to leave. Jeff drew and shot the 8-point. It ran 40 yards and stopped.
Then it moved into the woods.
Jeff called camp and we drove
there immediately and took up the short trail to the woods. The buck was
just inside the wood line and it stood up when it saw us coming. We ducked
to the ground and Jeff moved forward.

Jeff acted quickly and found
a shooting lane and shot. The buck dropped and expired.
Jeff Gosset is a retired
NFL punter of 15 years -- with 2 years with the Kansas City Chiefs,
4 with the Cleveland, Browns and 9 with the LA/Oakland Raiders. He made
the Pro Bowl in 1991. He got into bowhunting in 1976 when his college baseball
team mate Rich Philippi got him into it. These days Jeff is selling score
boards for Nevco Scoreboard Company and lives in Colleyville, Texas.
John Askew - Afternoon Hunt
In a different ladder stand
John saw 4 groups of wild turkeys. Three groups doe jittery and left. Then
John saw 6 Toms coming through the trees and when they were in range
John drew. A Tom putted but they didn't leave and John aimed at the closest
one and when the bird turned and looked toward him John shot. The arrow
hit and the gobbler went down 20 yards.
