Getting
Ready
Our First Hunters
This Year Are: Chef Klaus, Rick Philippi, John Askew, Jim Bob Baker, Jeff
Gossett, Colby Ward, Dave Zeck, Tyge Floyd as well as Donald Duck and myself.
Two days before the hunt
the Duck (Don Beckwith) and Billy Don Van Cleave met in Waco, Texas and
prepared the hunt menu and purchased the food. The above hunters arrived
on Friday and everyone visited and got their gear ready for the morning
hunt.
DAY
1

16 year old Dave Zeck
("Diamond Dave") and Don Beckwith ("the Duck")
Colby Ward
Today Colby saw 10 bucks
(mostly 8 pointers), 4 does and 5 groups of wild turkeys.
Dave Zeck Breaks The Ice
Sixteen year old Dave Zeck
is from Monroeville, New Jersey and has bowhunted 3 years and taken a 7-pt
and a doe before this hunt. On the first morning hunt he was in a Double
Bull blind and saw a group of wild hogs and 6 longbeards before a forky
and two does came up.
One of the does got antsy
and moved away, Dave acted quickly and shot the other doe. It ran 35 yards
and dropped.
The Duck Bags A Wild Boar
In his own words...
"My first hunt was real exciting.
A beautiful Black Buck walked by my stand early and let me take its picture
at 10 yards."
"After the blackbuck left
two wild hogs came down the nearby trail. I decided to put some meat in
the freezer."
"I had tuned my BowTech Patriot
at the Canadian bear hunt and when I arrived in camp I shot to check my
sight. I had to make a slight adjustment. Billy Don had put me in a Double
Bull Matrix blind and as I drew and shot my Maxima carbon arrow blew through
the mesh and the pig."
"I tracked the boar a short
ways and drug it out to the field and waited to be picked up. This is just
the beginning of a great vacation hunt. "
Jeff Gossett
Hunted a Double Bull Matrix
at Hower's Hollow. Wild hogs came up and winded Jeff. They ran away. Fifteen
hen turkeys came in and one was a white hen. Jeff took a picture.
In the afternoon he hunted
the Airstrip in a Matrix. It was hot and the mosquitos were out. Jeff saw
a nice 8-pt., 3 does and a fawn.
John Askew
John saw hogs, deer and
wild turkeys today. One was a large buck but it didn't come within range.
Rick Philippi
Rick saw does and wild hogs.
Jim Bob Baker
Several bucks came into
his area on the morning and afternoon hunts. Three were mature with big
racks.
Chef Klaus
Mike Ditchler saw 12 wild
hogs, 3 bucks and a doe, and a group of Aoudads and a flock of wild turkeys.
He tried to shoot a wild hog but they busted him when he drew. He shot
at the largest Aoudad but the arrow went far left. |
